An Album a Day - January 2021

I use to do this on RYM or AOTY to keep a listening log, but this year I thought I would limit myself to one new album a day, released in that week. I thought, why not sharing it with you all, in case you feel too lazy to go around looking for new releases, you can find one here every day (or at least I'll try to keep it updated). Feel free to comment on new releases I should keep on the radar, etc.

January 1st

New year, new Mechina. It's usually a good sign. A lady and two djentlemen in which has been defined as Mass Effect metal odyssey.

January 2nd

I don't know how I did it but it seems the previous entry got deleted. My guess is sloppy thumb on mobile at night. Can't remember what I wrote here, but well, brazilian pop duo making really pleasant music. First two tracks are specially sweet.

No bandcamp for the divas, so watch this cool vid of the best track of the album:

January 3rd

One man black metal project (and a bit of Drudkh worship) from Ukraine.
When the Darkness Comes

January 4th

A dungeon synth/gothic black metal project based on the Harry Potter books? That seems to be the case.
5Celestial Swarm
Gateways to the Necroverse

January 5th

Blackened death metal from Maryland.
From Beyond the Grave

January 6th

Another one man army from Colorado. The chief touches on all things metal, mainly black, death and thrash.
7Gates Of Doom
Aquileia Mater Aeterna

January 7th

Another blackened death project, this time from Italy.
Coal People Coal Puppets

January 8th

The project of Tali Green, a composer and producer based in Tel Aviv (Israel). I was expecting a folk album but it turns out she's into sludge and grunge. Great voice too.
9Frozen Soul
Crypt Of Ice

January 9th

The boys got a pretty good gig with Century Media and they release their thunderous debut. Freezing death metal to accompany this hellish weather.

That also means they are not in BC anymore, so have a single courtesy of the corpos:

If anyone has a link to the full album let me know in the comments!
WASTELAND: What Ails Our People Is Clear

January 10th

We go post punk today. Bristol's very own LICE's third release is a huge step forward from their previous material. Think Idles, Protomartyr with heavier bursts at times.

January 11th

It seems that snow that comes once a year is approaching so Swedish black metal it is!
12For Giants
There, There

January 12th

Not a big fan of Cloudkicker, Polyphia and all that instrumental math rock mumbo jumbo but I have to admit that these guys are amazing.
13Ancient Mastery
Chapter One...

January 13th

Crazy symphonic, old school black metal from Vienna. Never had so much fun with an album like this in a long time. Highly recommend it.
An Unexpected Reality

January 14th

This was dropped out of nowhere and you should get on it. Fierce bursts of DM and a slow, long ending slab of doom.
15Pom Poko

January 15th

Ooops, forgot to update yesterdau, but didn't forget to jam. First album I was hyped for this year and didn't disappoint. The Norwegian prog pop rioters still got it.
16Beautify Junkyards

January 16th

Summer vibes mid-winter because why not. 4th album of these Portuguese. Psychedelic folk and dream pop with tropicalia. A delish, really.

No bandcamp for these guys, but there's some stuff on youtube.
17Emma Ruth Rundle and Thou
The Helm Of Sorrow

January 17th

Saved this for Sunday, since it's only 4 tracks and I was planning to jam some 1971 stuff too. Ended up having this on repeat most of the morning. Wonderful addition to last year's full length.

(The BC banner is amazing lol)

January 18th

From Russia, the debut of a... they say blackgaze but this is closer to Deftones' alt metal at times, so regarding tags is all a bit deluded. I'm working on a review for this so more words incoming.
19Shame (UK)
Drunk Tank Pink

January 19th

Stunning second album of the UK post punk gang. Seriously, this thing is amazing, specially loving the work and attention to detail they put on percussion elements.
20Fractal Generator

January 20th

Woke up to this today. I think it's the least you need for a day like this. There's also Lady Gaga dressed like a DC superhero singing on the Capitol if you can't take this much of space tech death.
21Radio Supernova

January 21st

Closing the third week of releases with a hidden gem. Shoegaze from Finland in the local language, enticing vocals, a drummer on point and enough reverb to sink a cathedral. The closer is smth else.
