I get what this is going for. I really do. The whole rope you into a trance thing with its repetitive minimalism. It gets the job done at times and at other times not so much. I feel like you need to be cleaning or playing video games or something to listen to this. If you just sit down and listen to this record you’ll die of boredom. The samples are cool but not utilized in the best way in my opinion. They barely add to the feel and are just more noise filler. It’s pretty good but not something I’d want to jam after this comp to be honest. Every time I played this in the house everyone complained that the music was “just nothing.” Can’t say I fully agree with that but can’t say I disagree either. There’s some really good stuff here but my music taste and the sheer redundancy here is a little ridiculous for me.

I love me some unhinged vocalists. David Yow. Nick Cave. Tom Waits. Daughters guy. Captain Beefheart. The difference between those crazy vocalists though and this guy is even though they had zany vocal styles that are all over the place there’s always still some form of meter or melody or rhythm or something to latch onto. This guy has absolutely no structure to his vocals. He is everywhere and meanders and mumbles through everything. It’s like dude can you just ride a rhythm for a second? Can you come up with one melody? Luckily the music saves it and is fairly interesting throughout the record. The piano is dope. The subdued nature of some of the music is cool. It’s still not that good though. Like a never got floored by anything here. The demonic blues thing has been done a few times and it’s always sort of bored me. Definitely my least favorite album you rec’d here but it’s still pretty good. Someone shut their amateur vocalist up.
