| | Grunge Big 4 Ranked | | 4 | | Nirvana In Utero
I DO really dig Nirvana, but for genuine haunted souls, Layne comes across as way more mature and less childlike than Kurt to me. The lyricism is a bit too random (I know some people find that endearing, but it's not for me). The musicianship of bands like Pearl Jam and Soundgarden are also faaarrrr more impressive imo. Still a fun time to jam them every once in a while, but I never understood why they were always the kings of the genre, other than just being commercially appealing and Kurt having a "cool" aesthetic for preteens who hated life. | | 3 | | Pearl Jam Ten
Ok so I feel the need to reiterate everywhere that if we were going by live performances, this band would be #1 by far. Over the past decade in a half, every single time I see them live it is an insane experience that I only have with a couple of other bands on the planet (and I've seen hundreds). But going by their albums, if I'm going to be honest I only jam a few of their studio albums. It's not a bad thing, I just don't think they're a studio band and don't really stack up to AiC or Soundgarden in terms of albums. So this is either 1 or 3, really hard to rank these. All of the shitty Eddie Vedder impressions in the world can't turn me off to this band. | | 2 | | Soundgarden Superunknown
Goddamn, their riffs just DO NOT stop. And Chris Cornell's range is absolutely unfair. He just sounds like he puts all of his feelings into every note. Damn, I miss when rock actually rocked this hard. Basically a perfect band. | | 1 | | Alice in Chains Dirt
I mean, studio wise, these guys incapsulate everything I think of when I think of grunge. Just dirty, epically heavy riffs, complete sorrow and genuine emotion that you can headbang to 100% of the time. I can jam these guys forever and never get bored. | |

06.07.20 | I could have typed pages and pages of text for each one. So much to say about all four of these. | JustJoe.
06.07.20 | i have nothing productive to say about about any of this but i do love me some lucca | rodrigo90
06.07.20 | This is.....pretty accurate. | ArsMoriendi
06.07.20 | 2 > 1 > 4 >>>>>> 3 | DarkSideOfLucca
06.07.20 | @Ars - Once again my dude, I just gotta point you to any of their live shows. I was the same way when all I heard was their studio shit. If you have heard their live shows and still feel that way, then I don't know what to say except that we differ tremendously on our tastes lol

06.07.20 | Nirvana over all. | claygurnz
06.07.20 | Love them all but Nirvana > Soundgarden > AIC > Pearl Jam | Rawmeeth38
06.07.20 | I would just switch Nirvana and PJ. AiC and SG are top of the pack for sure. | DoofDoof
06.07.20 | reverse the order and you're set ;D
maybe AIC over Soundgarden but I caught Soundgarden live and they were real good
Stone Temple Pilots would be in the mix too, probably 4th or 5th but not too far behind Soundgarden or AIC in my estimations
Nirvana and Pearl Jam were just massive, definitely my top 2, and Nirvana in pure musical regards are easily top | Dwap
06.07.20 | Soundgarden for the win, then AIC, PJ, Nirvana | evilford
06.07.20 | SG ftw [2]
RIP chris | BookoftheFallen
06.07.20 | Where’s melvins | NeroCorleone
06.07.20 | on a better list | JDubb
06.08.20 | No STP allowed, IMO. Not in the big 4. Soundgarden has become my #1 over the years, but AIC Previously held that position through the 90’s and 2000’s. | RogueNine
06.08.20 | pretty accurate [2] | Morningrise767
06.08.20 | accurate ranking, though I'd also be happy if 3 and 4 were swapped
Alice In Chains deserve the #1 for their MTV Unplugged performance alone imo | unclereich
06.08.20 | "Alice In Chains deserve the #1 for their MTV Unplugged performance alone imo"

06.08.20 | no u < 3 | ReturnToRock
06.08.20 | 4, 1, 3, 2 would be my ranking. | Brabiz
06.08.20 | Finally someone who agrees about nirvana. | DarkSideOfLucca
06.08.20 | I agree, but every Unplugged was the best shit ever. Nutshell from AiC, Black from Pearl Jam, most of the set by Nirvana.
I don't think I saw the Soundgarden one, but the MTV Unplugged have my favorite performances from the other 3. | ConcubinaryCode
06.08.20 | Stone over Pearl. | BookoftheFallen
06.09.20 | Melvins are the best grunge band | DarkSideOfLucca
06.09.20 | "Stone over Pearl."
I love Stone and all, and I'm sure you're a great dude, but absolutely fucking not, my man lol
And Melvins rule, yeah. | Pikazilla
06.09.20 | Good ranking. Nirvana are boring, so the spot at the bottom is well deserved. | deathofasalesman
06.09.20 | I would say Nirvana are the LEAST boring, actually the most fun, band on this list. Their discography has less duds than all of these groups. I would jam Nirvana harder than any of the other groups, especially with friends around. Pearl Jam < Soundgarden < AiC < Nirvana :) | DarkSideOfLucca
06.09.20 | Pika knows | Sinternet
06.09.20 | 4 > 1 > 2 > 3 for me tbh | DarkSideOfLucca
06.09.20 | Pfftttt you guys and your Nirvana love
Goddamn conformists, the lot of ya! | DarkSideOfLucca
06.09.20 | < 3 | Cygnatti
06.09.20 | all 4 suck xD |
