Red (The Band) Ranked

Red have often been regarded as one of the better bands in the alt. Metal genre, due to their inclusion of strings and strong vocal performance from frontman Micheal Barns. After the release of the bands recent album, "Declaration", was released to universal critical acclaim. what better time time to revisit the rest of the bands catalog?

Release the Panic

Look, you all knew this was going to be on the bottom. this album just gets worse and worse on every revisit. It is riddled with inconstant mixing thought and the band really trying hard to be commercial that they become bland and loose all originality. This is one of my bigger regret albums, as not only did at one point have this as my favorite Red album when it came out, but i played it constantly for a little over the next year. also the fact the band released a redux of the album shortly after as an apology just really shows how bad this album is.

Release the Panic: Recalibrated

Alright Red I accept your apology, but you cannot just shove in strings on terrible songs and suddenly that makes them songs good or even an improvement. only song worth hearing from this is "glass house"

End of Silence

I know having this album this low on the list is gonna get me some backlash but If I can be 100% honest, this album has not aged the best, and Micheal Barns vocals here are a bit too nasally for most the album. Their is a bit of a layout here on what the band's sound would be, and some solid tracks, but all in all, this album is just okay.

Gone

Now this is what "Release the Stagnant" should have sounded like! Now i think its pretty clear they (or sony) wanted to take a huge Starset influence for this release for this release (as Starset front man bates has writing credits for this album) but that being said, this new direction for the band is actually quite well done complete with a solid cover of Sia!

Innocence and Instinct

Balances the innocence (the softer songs) and the Instinct (the heavier songs) quite well. Their are a few weaker moments like "Start Again" being a sore thumb as the weakest song on the album. Regardless this album is a great improvement over the debut album and the string element here works fantastically. With some strong tracks, like the opener "Fight Inside" and the well done cover of Duran Duran.

Until We Have Faces

Containing the momentum from their last album, RED Improves on their sophomore effort in virtually every way, the balled are stronger and have more sentiment and the rest of the album is more dynamic. their are songs that just really Rip ("Feed the machine") and that take a bit more of a commercial approach quite well ("Lie To Me(Denial") The album does take a small dip in the second half, but regardless this is a fantastic album!

Of Beauty and Rage

The bands most epic, grand, and theatrical release yet, this album is one that is more of a musical journey from start to finish. This album can feel a bit too long, however it does not collapse under the weight of its high set expectations. This was a perfect comeback album after "Released In Panic" and one that showed that not only did the band still have it, but they had more to them then we thought. If you have a little over an hour, give this a spin.

Declaration

This album is the wedding ceremony of "Innocence and Instinct" and "Of Beauty and Rage" and is without a doubt the Red album with the most bite. During this ceremony, we get a celebration of the best of the band as the band gives their "Deceleration" to their fans that have supported them over the years. the sometimes shorty mixing is not enough to hinder this gathering in the slightest as the album rides off into the sunset for the honeymoon.
