12 Female-Fronted Bands You've Likely Never Heard

It's unfortunate, but some bands come and go. Not even a one hit wonder, but instead a one album wonder with little to no air play. These are 12 female-fronted bands that graced us with their presence, if only for a brief time. Take a listen! It's not too late...what was once lost can still be found!
1Acalasia
What Makes You a Maniac?

Acalasia was a hard rock band out of Altoona, PA. According to Facebook, they formed upon serving court-ordered community service hours. They released EPs in 2007 and 2008. I saw them live in Richmond, VA in around this time period and was impressed. I bought their sampler, which only had two songs on it (So Much for the Railcar, Based on True Stories). Have never been able to find a physical copy of any of their other releases.
2Apparatus (ON)
Evolution

This alternative metal band, hailing from Sudbury, Ontario CAN, is likely the best band you have never heard. Melding Tool like riffage and drum beats, with Evanescence like vocals, this band truly slays. I can't say enough about this album...the more I hear it, the more intricacies I note and the more I dig it. I bought this on Amazon this year, and regret that I have missed out on this for such a long time.

Weight and Sea

This hard rock band was from Atlanta, GA. Saw them back in the day at the Masquerade, when I was living in the City. Can't remember who they opened up for, but I dug it. I remember the lead singer, Magdalena Ollar from Poland, had just gotten engaged and showed the crowd her new rock.

Numb

Found this Seattle Grunge band on accident. The Seattle scene was truly more diverse than most think in hindsight.
5Hydrovibe
Nothing Left to Lose

Another great hard rock/metal band that you've never likely heard of. Hydrovibe formed in Louisiana, but later relocated to Los Angeles. Led by Heather St. Marie, this band had a great presence and sound. Saw them live in Richmond and was a big fan ever since.
6Liliac
Chain of Thorns

Some of you may have seen them on TV. Liliac, a band with a firm hold in 80's rock and metal, are a true talent. The lead singer of the band, the middle daughter of a family of 5 children in the band, has an incredible voice and presence.
7Manhole
All Is Not Well

Saw this rap-metal band with Stuck Mojo at the Masquerade in ATL many years back. Tarrie B, back in the day, was one of the best frontmen and rappers I have seen. She has since been in the bands Tara Sultana and My Ruin, which don't hit as hard. Manhole was a force to be reckoned with. This album also includes a track with guest vocals from none other than Lynn Strait. Incredible album.

Memoira

A relatively unheard symphonic metal band out of Finland. The production isn't the greatest, but a good listen nonetheless.
9Mount Salem
Endless

How about some doom metal from Chicago, IL? This album, as well as Emily Kopplin's vocals, never wear out. Would love to hear more from this band.
10Pearl Aday
Little Immaculate White Fox

Pearl is famous for being the wife of Scott Ian (Anthrax) and the stepdaughter of Meat Loaf. This is a good hard rock album, but nothing to get too excited over.

Pet

This is a great (early nu-) metal album, that unfortunately went rather unnoticed. Lisa Papineau sounds like a metal Tori Amos. They had their one song, Lil' Boots, on the Crow: City of Angels soundtrack, but nothing materialized after that.

Between The Devil and Two Black Hearts

Not sure what genre this falls under. But it is a great album, crafted by Sean Beavan (ex NIN) and his wife Juliette.
