| 10 2019 Country Albums
One of the most overlooked genres on Sput and in general - Here are some of my favorite country albums of 2019. Outside of the top album, all are unranked. | 1 | | Orville Peck Pony
Country music by the way of Ennio Morricone and the old-west, post-punk influences, and a modern non-heteronormative spin. A brilliant voice, superb melodies, and just the audicity of "Pony" makes it my favorite country release of 2019 so far. | 2 | | Tyler Childers Country Squire
A modern honky-tonk country singer, with just enough fun to not overshadow the grit and enough grit to not make it sound disingenuous. | 3 | | Cat Clyde Hunters Trance
Although musically she isn't anything to necessarily write home about, Cat Clyde has one of the best voices in modern country music. If she's able to fully embrace the darker side of the sound she hints at, she has potential for a genre classic in the future. | 4 | | Buffalo Wabs and the Price Hill Hustle Stranger in the Alps
Good old fashion bluegrass that doesn't sound outdated. It sounds just as home in 2019 as it would have back in days of Spaghetti Westerns. | 5 | | Yola Walk Through Fire
A British women of color has managed to make herself one of the most talked about names in Americana in 2019, which is no small feat. A powerful voice and a range of influences are the reason for that, with "Walk Through Fire" having enough sonic variance without straying too far from its roots. | 6 | | Joshua Ray Walker Wish You Were Here
A country crooner done right. Doesn't reinvent the wheel, but has a pretty good go at steering it. | 7 | | William Tyler Goes West
Post-Americana. Equally mellow and entrancing, a perfect sunrise album. | 8 | | Ian Noe Between The Country
Throwback country. Music that sounds like it was recorded in sepia tone, a twangy folk that reeks of both nostalgia but also doesn't step away from discussing hard times. Definite Jason Isbell vibes, with some great guitar work throughout. | 9 | | Lula Wiles What Will We Do
Another welcome addition to female driven, socially conscious country music bordering on the edge of bluegrass. Haunting lyrics and harmonies abound! | 10 | | Emily Scott Robinson Traveling Mercies
Country-folk songs about America in all its glories. For fans of Kacey Musgraves, although definitely more on the folk side rather than pop. One of my favorites of the year and criminally overlooked. | |

09.04.19 | Uh oh - Poor Buffalo Wabs was struck by the great Labor Day breakdown.
Country Music has either the best or worst album art - Discuss? | AffableMartyr
09.05.19 | I don't even listen to country but 1 and 2 were great. Especially 1, just discovered it a week ago and have been jamming it non stop | Clumseee
09.05.19 | Can you do a list of your favourite country records since 2000? Agreed it's underappreciated on Sput. Thanks in advance. | Ambrosian
09.05.19 | This is a good list | dmathias52
09.05.19 | I could do a decade country list! I’ll be honest that I feel pretty good about classic country and more recent, but definitely missing a lot of 2000-2009. | DoofDoof
09.05.19 | Good list, also liked:
The Delines - The Imperial
Drunken Prayer - Cordelia Elsewhere

09.06.19 | Gonna have to throw those on soon here Doof, not familiar with either! Same with yours peekatoad.
It’s been a really consistent year for country so far Boney, so I think there’d be some in here you would like! No crazy standout yet (although I do love Orville) but a lot of solid stuff | Clumseee
09.06.19 | Looking forward to whatever! I'm pretty obsessed with Sturgill Simpson and Jason Isbell but that's about it. | peekatoad
09.06.19 | You might want to actually listen to what i posted..

09.06.19 | Good shit, may refer to this come cram list time... | butt.
09.06.19 | not a country guy so much, but I really enjoyed Tyler Childers | dmathias52
09.06.19 | I think whether people are country fans or not, Orville Peck has something to offer for sure! Can’t get enough
@butt You should check out 6 and 8! Not quite the style of Childers, more “dirt emo”, but I think fans of Tyler would like them | NorthernSkylark
09.08.19 | Nice list. Love 10. Will check the others.
Have you heard Shannen Moser's I'll Sing?
Other than that, Townes van Zandt's Sky Blue from this year is pretty good. |
