Pony
Country music by the way of Ennio Morricone and the old-west, post-punk influences, and a modern non-heteronormative spin. A brilliant voice, superb melodies, and just the audicity of "Pony" makes it my favorite country release of 2019 so far. | | 2 |  | Tyler Childers

Hunters Trance
Although musically she isn't anything to necessarily write home about, Cat Clyde has one of the best voices in modern country music. Stranger in the Alps
Good old fashion bluegrass that doesn't sound outdated. It sounds just as home in 2019 as it would have back in days of Spaghetti Westerns. | | 5 |  | Yola
Walk Through Fire
A British women of color has managed to make herself one of the most talked about names in Americana in 2019, which is no small feat. A powerful voice and a range of influences are the reason for that, with "Walk Through Fire" having enough sonic variance without straying too far from its roots. | | 6 |  | Joshua Ray Walker

Between The Country

Traveling Mercies
Country-folk songs about America in all its glories. For fans of Kacey Musgraves, although definitely more on the folk side rather than pop. One of my favorites of the year and criminally overlooked. | |

Other than that, Townes van Zandt's Sky Blue from this year is pretty good. |
