Scream ranked

Scream 3 - It's actually not a terrible movie, as some people would leave you to believe. The original idea for this installment was scrapped because of Columbine, which didn't help. That's also why the gore was toned way down and why the comedy was even more at the forefront than usual, but I still actually found this film to be pretty funny and quite entertaining, even if it doesn't really have any scares. The twist at the end was also pretty unpredictable, so that's another plus.
Punishment for Decadence

Scream 2 - This movie is neck and neck with Scream 4. Having a sequel that makes fun of sequels was the perfect angle to go with this one. There are certain characters I would have preferred not to be killed off, and the twist wasn't AS engaging as the first one, but it was still a really great time. It is impressive how great this film is for only coming out a year after the original.
Mental Vortex

Scream 4 - This movie fucking rules. This movie came out at the perfect time for this new generation of horror fans. Focusing on social media, torture porn and remakes, this movie had a ton to say with great new kills, hilarious lines and a great return for all of the major players. Props to this movie for keeping the Scream tradition of having a fantastic opening, as well.
No More Color

Scream - Of course this one is first. It's a goddamn classic. This movie was meta before being meta was the "in" thing to do. It's scary, self-aware, hilarious, has a perfect set of characters, an interesting mystery, a scary look for the villain, and one of the most legendary horror opening scenes of all time.
