Deathconscious 12.27.18	thrash went hard as dick in the 80s. it didnt have much longevity, but even today there are a handful of great thrash bands. Voivod are still making good shit, Vektor, Fog of War, Power Trip, Ripper, Condor, etc.

Metalcore may have lasted a lot longer in the public eye than thrash, but only because it was co-opted by scene kids and generally made into a pop genre.

Space Jester 12.27.18	Some of my fave bands and albums are metalcore but thrash is definitely more influential. Thrash has a greater range of sounds than a lot of people realize, and it’s responsible for spawning at least two other genres. Metalcore is a crossover of pre-established genres. It has a very wide range of sounds and styles but usually those styles are again taken from other genres. There are exceptions of course but if we compressed the list of metalcore bands down to only those who were truly original and influential, the list would not be very big
