Pictures are probably the most important part. Make sure you don't look at the camera (candid or something). Have one pic of your face, one of your whole body, and one with a group of friends.
You also want to send messages out like crazy. They don't have to be great messages but have a greeting and an interesting conversation starter. Something about their profile to show that you read it if you can. Most women just browse their messages so a big profile is usually a waste of time.
Good advice for long term dating too is to take it slow and try to talk to/date 2-3 women at a time. If they sense you aren't urgent, they'll naturally be more interested. Its just the way i've seen it work |

That doesn't account though that vast amounts of people probably are incorporating their own seperate criteria on top of the inputs themselves. It's a fact that when you meet someone in person you are only given so much information and you have to take a risk and invest a little bit to know more. And once you make that initial investment you may really like someone who may not have the criteria in your head that you once thought was a must, because that person sold you on other qualities you never thought of before.
I think online dating can be great, it can be used to expand social networks, meet new people, etc. But I think for many people it actually narrows the spectrum of people to date/see, because while sure their network is larger, now someone may choose not to even swipe right unless a dude appears to have a 6 pack, if a girl doesn't have a 5/5 ass, insert a million other arbitrary criteria. I've been with plenty of people swipingon Tinder and it is fascinating/fucked up that people within 15-30 seconds and viewing a few pictures and a bio that you can make a rational decision on whether this person is worthy of your time. I get that that's how it works, but I think given all this power for specificity, it takes away the opportunity and chance to actually takes risks and change preferences.
Malcom Gladwell has had numerous speeches on how human preferences many times are wrong and just what we think we like. By dating by meeting people and taking chances, you routinelly are putting your preferences at risk and open to possibly changing your criteria. By swiping right only on blonde chicks you yourself are self selecting and limiting your options.
I don't think tinder and online dating is terrible, I think it's great people can have alternative options to meeting people, I also think it's more than fair that the habits and norms it is subtley encouraging is not necessarilly a good thing for society. And I think the truth of the matter is that while many people claim online dating has expanded their options, I think in reality it enforces people tot ake less risks, be comfortable with their pre set preferences andpass up on risks and opportunities that meeting people person to person has, especially with the idea that you may be happy being with someone that you never thought you would have if given a profile to swipe on. |

I didn't think it would be so controversial to say that there's a vast diffeence between reading someone's dating profile and meeting them in person, and that a girl may not swipe right on a guys profile, but if given a chance to meet in person, have a real conversation and see other qualities like humor, charm and witt that a girl may change her mind.

Dude, I've never argued that it has the possibility to expand who you can meet, but that doesn't mean that's how it will be used by people. Tinder can be used both to expand your search but it can also be used to wittle down your search, that's not even controversial. Furthermore I'd say the fact people can meet outside of daily routines has now excused people to not even remotelly socialize with people in public. Think about it, most men and women I'd say may be creeped out if someone on the train/bus walked up to them, had a conversation and asked for their number while if that same person messaged them completely as a stranger online that person may give them a chance.

I don't see what's crazy in thinkin that for thousands of years a vast majority of human relationships intiated through in person contact, and that with the increase in technology and applications social norms are changing very rapidly, and it's yet to be determined what the short and long term effects will be, and that early results show that social media use has been directly linked to increases in depression and a dating profile is arguably the most personal social media platform you can put together and has the power to bring great happiness and joy but also sadness and depression. |

I know of 3 successful long term relationships through Tinder as well - but that number is dwarfed by the amount of "quick pickups" I know coming out of Tinder, for acquaintances of mine as well as for me personally. Though like I said, in my case, I'm not looking for anything long term either so of course you're right when you say that it also has to do with how you posture yourself.
