| REC Me some Latin American-Influenced Metal
My first exposure to Latin American-influenced metal was Sepultura - Roots (#1) and Soulfly's first self-titled album (#2). Each of these albums are groundbreaking and truly unique, and employ strong tribal beats throughout, and feature instrumentation truly unique to South America. In the same fashion, I also dug Sepultura - Against (#3). Soon thereafter, I was introduced to Puya (#4, #5), which took Latin flavor and expanded on it exponentially in their music. When I first saw Puya at Ozzfest, I had never seen a band that one could both head bang and dance salsa to, all within the same song...and multiple times within the same song. Other bands have also incorporated Latin drumming styles and rhythms, and spanish lyrics into their music. For example Ill Nino (#6) and Nonpoint (#7, #8). I also find Orqesta del Desierto an interesting desert rock listen. Recently, on Sputnik, I have been introduced to both Samdahi Band (#9) and Los Natas (#10), which provide an incredible Latin rendition of Tool and Kyuss, respectively...both two of my favorite bands. Please recommend me some good Latin American influenced metal in the vein of the above bands. | | 1 | | Sepultura Roots | | 2 | | Soulfly Soulfly Digipak | | 3 | | Sepultura Against | | 4 | | Puya Fundamental | | 5 | | Puya Puya | | 6 | | Ill Nino Revolution/Revolucion | | 7 | | Nonpoint Recoil

08.09.18 | Note that I am primarily looking for bands with strong tribal beats and rhythms, and am fine with either sung or rapped lyrics in spanish. I am not looking for extreme metal (e.g., death metal, black metal) or power metal (e.g., Angra, Armored Dawn, etc.). But I am down with some nu-metal and alternative metal. | rodrigo90
08.09.18 | A.N.I.M.A.L. and CARAJO | rodrigo90
08.09.18 | Trust me I'm from Argentina | bgillesp
08.09.18 | Ooh, interesting list. Idk any off the top of my head but I may check some of these I haven't heard. | JDubb
08.09.18 | Rodrigo90, these are great. I hear a little bit of early Downset in A.N.I.M.A.L. Downset is a great band I forgot to include in my list. | 0GuyMan0
08.10.18 | Ramon from puya had another band whose name escapes me right now. Toured with np on the ttp tour. | JDubb
08.11.18 | 0GuyMan0, I took a look and believe you are referring to Ankla. Took a listen to their album "Steep Trails" and dug this. Sounds almost like a Latin Hellyeah. Also found the bands De La Tierra ("self-titled") and D-Mente ("Valiente Eternidad"), and liked their albums a lot. | JDubb
08.11.18 | Also found a 2004 compilation called "Listen Without Distraction - A Tribute to Kyuss", which features 16 different Argentinian bands. Includes Los Natas in my list above. A great tribute to a great band. | 0GuyMan0
08.11.18 | Ankla is correct |
