Hawks
06.27.18 | Damn this is super weird but I dig it. |
foxblood
06.27.18 | nice dude! yeah several of these are weird. I'm so glad you're digging it. I used to listen to that album, especially 2 sisters, pretty often because I bought it when I was first getting into freak folk kinda stuff. |
Hawks
06.27.18 | It reminds me of Bon Iver on shrooms. |
foxblood
06.27.18 | yeah it's pretty sick, it sounds a little ritualistic but Americana too. |
Deathconscious
06.27.18 | 35 was actually one that caught my attention. along with Rubik, The Robot Ate Me, Half-Handed Cloud, Califone, Beep Beep, and The Skygreen Leopards. gonna check all of em. |
Sinternet
06.27.18 | man Say Hi is great and Wishes and the Glitch is a fantastic album |
foxblood
06.27.18 | @ Adolf cool, 35 is pretty nice imo, it's got this slow hard hitting fiery sound.
Rubik are really cool and I always considered that album to be a pleasant find, they should've been way bigger. First track is amazing on this haha.
Robot Ate Me doesn't seem to be everybody's thing but that artists needs more fans he's pretty original I think.
Half-hounded Cloud is similar in some ways, it's way more optimistic bright indie pop with electro and folk. Kinda religious but still has weird lyrics.
Beep Beep have an almost grind element to them, it's cool.
Skygreen are very weird spaced out psych folk.
agreed sin The Wishes And The Glitch was good. |
SandwichBubble
06.27.18 | My heart melted just looking at some of these names and descriptions, mission accomplished ❤
I'll definitely be checking 51 (and everything else natch) |

06.27.18 | “coldheaven, that's awesome I've never known someone that has heard of beep beep before:0”
I remember they were around during the hayday of Saddle Creek records. I can’t remember if they were on that label or not, regardless that label had a lot of amazing bands that just faded out. Tilly And The Wall, Now It’s Overhead, Sorry About Dresden, Azure Ray, etc etc. |
foxblood
06.27.18 | I just added Tilly And The Wall right before seeing your comment lol! Funny coincidence. Saddle Creek had some great stuff. |
cold
06.27.18 | Oh man, I LOVEEEEE “Wild Like Children”. I got lucky enough to see them tour that on the Bright Eyes “I’m Wide Awake It’s Morning” tour, that was such a great show. I think Coco Rosie played that show too. |

klap
06.27.18 | Some good stuff here, that elected album is an all time classic for me. Hits that elliott smith sweet spot. Was just listening to born ruffians yesterday bc they have a new one out. French kicks, handsome furs, tilly and the Wall, say hi etc all legit |
JustJoe.
06.27.18 | 48 is good stuff, yeah. |

klap
06.27.18 | Howl howl gaff gaff is great. the Swedes >>>> |
foxblood
06.27.18 | our ill wills was really good too I just listened to it less. Swedes know how to pop |

foxblood
06.28.18 | Added 10 more or so. |
platnum
06.28.18 | Feels like I'm living in an alternate reality where 65 is considered indie |
foxblood
06.28.18 | idk if it's really considered 'indie', which is a really loose genre tag anyways. it's avant garde rock I guess, I just associate them with some more indie-ish bands from the time period. Same with AIDS Wolf. |
brainmelter
06.28.18 | nice list fox, i've only heard of like 5 of these lol. bookmarked |
foxblood
06.28.18 | Thanks brain, you would prob like a few of the weirder ones, pick and choose whatever strikes your fancy. You might like 22. |

foxblood
06.28.18 | Good point. Crocodiles are alright, I liked Endless Flowers. |
Drifter
06.28.18 | Actually now that I think about it it wasn't actually bad after the first two songs. I think I have it 3.5d |
Deathconscious
06.28.18 | ahh yes, Menomena. they had a bit of popularity here for a little while. good band. |
foxblood
06.28.18 | Yeah Menomena are possibly the most popular on this list but I haven't heard them mentioned at all in a while. Friend And Foe was good too. |
Lucman
06.28.18 | There is so much to listen to here. Seriously, thanks for this, fox. |
foxblood
06.28.18 | No problem man, this kinda indie stuff was totally my jam from 2004-2008 and I've noticed a lot of it has never had a resurgence in popularity. I'm glad you can appreciate it, hope you find some things you can enjoy. |
Lucman
06.28.18 | Definitely. Just finished spinning Tiny Vipers. Super minimalist stuff but gorgeous all the same. |
Pheromone
06.28.18 | Jane on 61 is such a perfect song
gd list, love this sorta thing |
Snake.
06.28.18 | ayyyyyyyy 45 |
foxblood
06.29.18 | Blueberry Boat on vinyl sounds cool! Vinyls are the best.

foxblood
06.29.18 | chad vangaalen is def underappreciated. Will check wren. thanks chortles.
Agreed hard adolf, that album has grown on me a lot, it could even grow to a 5. It's almost shoegazey. I'm really glad you like it! the songs have satisfying builds and I like the vox. I have one of their vinyls that's signed by the band that I found at a record store once. |
Deathconscious
06.29.18 | yeah, everything just comes together so well. amazing songwriting, and i love the hazy production and psychedelic elements. |
foxblood
06.29.18 | what're you feeling rating-wise? |

Deathconscious
06.30.18 | @fox for Dark Horse, maybe a 4.5 man, its pretty fucking amazing. |
foxblood
06.30.18 | nice Alex. awesome, agreed it's amazing. |
Papa Universe
07.04.18 | so the latest The Sea and Cake album did barely anything for me, glad to hear that One Bedroom is much more pleasant on the ear and engaging. |
Papa Universe
07.04.18 | Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin is also bloody damn solid |
foxblood
07.04.18 | Yeah Sea and Cake can range from really good to boring. SSLYBY are good. Broom got constant plays after it came out, I played the cd in my car all the time. Pershing was okk still worth checking but after that I haven't heard anything else, I didn't even realize they had 4 more albums after that now. |
Drifter
07.04.18 | 22 looks amazing
Check Coyote Legs - Head Full of Hope
It's only 2 songs. One of my favorite things ever |
foxblood
07.06.18 | added some more albums.
I've seen the Coyote Legs in your ratings before drift but will check sometime. |
SandwichBubble
07.06.18 | putting a dollar in the "get this list to 100 entries" fund
Is 93 indie? I had no idea |
GmemberKills
07.06.18 | gah damn. I was scrolling through this list thinking about how much of this stuff i haven't heard/looks amazing, and sure enough it's a foxblood one.
seriously how do you find/jam this much music? |
foxblood
07.06.18 | I would def call 93 indie pop
To find music I just use this site, spotify, youtube, rym, last.fm, and discogs. Sometimes I'll use blogs, I used to use them way more years ago but there're less of them now. |
foxblood
07.06.18 | gmember check 90 |
GmemberKills
07.06.18 | word. I know where to find a lot of it, I just need to make myself jam more unfamiliar stuff
i just checked 90 and it's great, 47 & 48 seem interesting too. I honesty don't know most of these, but I've been jamming 57 & 87 for while . |
foxblood
07.06.18 | cool. 47 and 48 are good, I like 48 a bit more but 47 is rated higher. Also check 4 and 41. |
Drifter
07.06.18 | Really like the artwork to 84 |
foxblood
07.06.18 | 84 is pretty good, it's worth checking. |
SandwichBubble
11.27.18 | I need to check more of these out immediately, I said I would but I've only listened to Jens (which was a great rec) |

Huge props for adding short descriptions, I'm not much of an acoustic guy. Bookmarked the fuck out of this. |
SandwichBubble
10.15.19 | Bumping best list to say that I'll love you forever for bringing that Tap Tap album to my attention, Fox. I fucking love it a lot. |
GhandhiLion
10.15.19 | Six Organs Of Admittance isn't indie. It's late period Fahey folk :[ |
GhandhiLion
10.15.19 | inb4: sandbitch says Fahey was one of the first indie musicians because indie = independent. |
SandwichBubble
10.15.19 | If "indie" could stop being the all-encompassing genre descriptor it's become, I could die in peace.
But live on I must.
And I actually don't know enough about John Fahey to back up that last claim.
Indie = Independent, anything else is hogwash.
Everything here is indie (I think) |
SandwichBubble
10.15.19 | Except lightning seeds though, pretty sure that isn't |
GhandhiLion
10.15.19 | Using indie to describe everything that is independent is more all-encompassing than just using it to describe a musical style. Indie mutated from being an abbreviation of independent a long time ago. No one calls Throbbing Gristle indie, but industrial records was an important indie label.
Indie and alternative are not just used to lump anything that isn't mainstream into a box anymore. |
unclereich

10.15.19 | Sea Wolf. Damn. |
SandwichBubble
10.15.19 | "Indie mutated from being an abbreviation of independent a long time ago"
Load of old, revisionist crap.
"No one calls Throbbing Gristle indie"
https://www.theguardian.com/music/2015/sep/27/sound-style-spirit-what-does-indie-mean-today-music-for-misfits-story-buzzcocks-rough-trade
"Independence, to me, is about having total control of your work. We’ve always kept that. When Throbbing Gristle started out, there were far fewer indie labels, but they were much more eclectic in their rosters, releasing music of very different genres. Most people have really inquisitive, eclectic minds when it comes to music, anyway. Today independent labels often specialise in genres. When you say “indie band” now, you know what that music’s going to sound like, and that’s a real shame."
Just because it's okay to be wrong now doesn't mean it's right. |
GhandhiLion
10.15.19 | "When you say “indie band” now, you know what that music’s going to sound like, and that’s a real shame."
Yes, an actual musical genre and not a shorthand descriptor. |
SandwichBubble
10.15.19 | Which is why it's wrong to use it as a genre, cause now the word "independent" is synonymous with a "sound." And anyone that uses that "sound" (even if they're on a major label) is called "indie." Which is wrong. It's wrong morally, it's wrong conceptually, and it's wrong by definition. Ladies and gentlemen of the audience, is this what we really want for future generations? I implore you to think differently.
|End of Debate: Part 1|

SandwichBubble
10.15.19 | Why does this happen every time? Why am I so easy to bait into a tirade?
I'm gonna stop now, sorry foxblood for shitting up your list. |
GhandhiLion
10.15.19 | Most genre names do little to actually describe the sound. I don't think it is independent that is synonymous with a particular sound actually. It is "indie" that most people use to describe a sound.
Things mutate past their original meaning. It's just the way language is. |

10.16.19 | glad you liked Tap Tap Lanzafame sandwich, I always enjoyed that one but never knew of anyone that had heard of them. i used to listen to that a lot |
SandwichBubble
10.16.19 | She Doesn't Belong off that one is on constant rotation.
I would like to retroactively claim that the above convo was all a ploy to get this the bumpage it rightly deserves. Totally my intention there. |
GhandhiLion
10.16.19 | I wouldn't know a thing about that. |
SandwichBubble
10.16.19 | My less tactful, label-obsessed twin was at the keyboard is all, I swear.
He did have a point though, he's a pretty bright guy all things considered. |
foxblood
10.16.19 | 65 and 95 aren't really 'indie' I just wanted them to have more exposure. indie is an evolving genre term too, it's useless sometimes. but the mid 2000's def has a sound associated with the term, Lanzaflame is a great example of that classic sound |
SandwichBubble
10.16.19 | Guess I just really don't like evolution :(
Anyway, I've talked enough about that crap. Gonna pick one of these at random to check today. |
mardin65
02.10.25 | Superb list. There’s definitely some stuff on here that I need to check out |
Butkuiss
02.10.25 | I would do anything to be back in 2010 spinning these albums sipping soy lattes with a shawty wearing galaxy tights and one of those metal owl necklaces |
Aerisavion
02.10.25 | Great list, definitely some stuff I want to revisit. |
