Best progthrash album ever. Best thrash album ever. Better than mental vortex. Every single member of this band is fucking ungodly with their talent. It’s like a supergroup or something...holy fuck. Still the best ever.
I hate it when people say this album is a Boeing step down from Master Of Puppets. This is Metallica at their most creative and ambitious effort with an endless sea of fuckin heavy catchy groovy riffs. I can definitely see how bands like Opeth, Dream Theater, and even Meshuggah owe their everything to this one. I’ve never been huge into Metallica but this has always been my favorite from them and the only album that’s never gotten stale.
People will laugh at me for calling Slayer prog (as they have before) but wouldn’t you call alternating time signatures, clean interludes, and sudden riff changes win complex structures progressive? I would. Throw Killing Fields or 213 on a progthrash compilation and they’ll fit right in. Anyways album rules. Suck that 3.3 rating wtf is that bullshit
Bump for the Testimonia introduction. I think ...And Justice is a bit more compelling than Master of Puppets but its production and relative inferiority to other releases from '88 harm its potential considerably.
Yeah, I'd recommend Vektor as well. Also, for the other choices, some could stand to be replaced. Sadist is more in the realm of prog death. Control Denied, Manticora and Vicious Rumors are between prog/power or just power. Flotsam is just power/thrash.
As for ...And Justice, just replace it with something else from '88. It's not like you have a lack of choice as albums like Deception Ignored and Brain Damage came out that same year. Same goes for Xentrix as well since calling them prog/tech thrash is a massive stretch.
