Demon of the Fall
05.03.18 | Have you checked all the obvious stuff? Erm, maybe some of these...
Sigur Ros - discog
GY!BE - Slow Riot/FA#
65daysofstatic - The Fall of Math/One Time for All Time
Mono - Hymn to the Immortal Wind
Mogwai - Happy Songs
Slint - Spiderland (not strictly post-rock but a big influence)
Kashiwa Daisuke - Program Music 1 (neo-classical with post-rock)
Maybeshewill - I Was Here for a Moment...
Yndi Halda - Enjoy Eternal Bliss |
Papa Universe
05.03.18 | 5 is great.
Check glaswewgians - severance. |
JS19
05.03.18 | Cmon man why bother trying to rec obvious stuff? That's like saying lol you checked Black Flag when someone recs some underground hardcore stuff |
BREAKDOWNS
05.03.18 | what js19 said [3738494992929×7×7+8×8] |
JS19
05.03.18 | In more relevant news anyone checked the new Toundra album 'Vortex'? Or Only Echoes Remain - Exigent or Seven Colour Drive - And then a gust of wind...
All great albums |
Demon of the Fall
05.03.18 | splinter didn't specifically say obscure recs & I just thought I'd get some obvious ones out of the way before the inevitable barrage of people listing them, plus they've not rated any of this stuff so how am I supposed to know?
Not to mention the fact this genre is widely derided for its clones, may as well make sure we've covered all the best stuff first. |
Prancer
05.03.18 | The Evpatoria Report - Golevka |
JS19
05.03.18 | ^ yeah once again another massive super famous album how is this helpful lol |
Prancer
05.03.18 | < 200 ratings = famous? |
Demon of the Fall
05.03.18 | This is what happens when people aren't specific & don't have things rated, you can't blame us for trying when we have next to no info. Not sure why you're so bothered. |
splinter
05.03.18 | @Demon of the Fall thanks for your recs, honestly I didn't check much of the "obvious" stuff.. I found like all of these albums on yt, I can't even say if it's popular or not. I just can say that I really like it and that I'm looking for similar stuff.
@JS19 usually I would agree but in this case I failed somehow and really didn't check the obvious stuff.. shame on me
@Papa Universe / Prancer thank you guys!

Demon of the Fall
05.03.18 | Thanks splinter, not going to lie I now feel quite smug @JS19. Haha. |
DinosaurJones
05.03.18 | Whoa, someone is trying to flash their hipster penis HARD in this list.
That said, I'll recommend an even more obvious one:
Explosions in the Sky - The Earth is Not a Cold, Dead Place
Also check:
God is an Astronaut - All is Violent, All is Bright
Goonies Never Say Die - In a Forest Without Trees
Three Trapped Tigers - Silent Earthling
A Picture of Her - C |
hogan900
05.03.18 | tbh most of the albums on this list are utter snoozefests for me. Some of them have good tracks but are meh all in all. I recommend
The Newfound Interest in Connecticut- Tell Me About the Long Dark Path Home
(The) Slowest Runner (In All The World)-We, Burning Giraffes
World's End Girlfriend - The Lie Lay Land or Hurtbreak Wonderland
Pg.lost- It's not me, it's you!
All that being said the Oh Hiroshima album needs to be talked about more
|
AsleepInTheBack
05.03.18 | GY!BE - Slow Riot [2]
Talk Talk - Laughing Stock is some good proto-post-rock (another obvious one, but eh) |
Demon of the Fall
05.03.18 | No dude, haven't you heard? Those ones are WAY to obvious, I've already been told off once. |
JS19
05.03.18 | Check Explosions in the Sky |
JustJoe.
05.03.18 | Was gonna rec Slowest Runner but I got here too late. |
JS19
05.03.18 | Didn't say don't rec obvious stuff just irks me whenever anyone posts anything about a genre you get 5000 messages of people like 'check Jane Doe'
- sure you got lucky that this was the one time the guy somehow heard some smaller band's albums before the classics but you have to admit that's the uncommon version of events. Usually that sort of thing makes it way harder to find actually cool new stuff when you're drowning in people saying check Isis on your niche post metal list right?
Glad this guy hasn't hearrd the big stuff though - is in for a treat : ) |

JS19
05.03.18 | Waking Aida are so great but they do autocorrect to 'Waking Aids' on my phone which is a much better name |
Sharkattack
05.03.18 | Post-rock mostly sucks besides the “obvious” ones in my opinion. Even then there are a lot of duds I.e. explosions in the sky, this will destroy you, caspian, etc |
Sharkattack
05.03.18 | Also damn dude you got a nice streak going |
GhandhiLion
05.03.18 | "Post-rock mostly sucks besides the “obvious” ones in my opinion" There are multiple bands from the 90s that are great but get little attention. |
BeyondCosby
05.03.18 | I mean.... Kauan? |
Sharkattack
05.03.18 | Like what ghandi? I am genuinely curious. I might need to give the genre more of a fair shake |
Demon of the Fall
05.03.18 | @Jom: was that a personal rec? Those guys seemed nice when I met them. That’s cool. |
Ashen
05.03.18 | Riding alone for thousands of miles - brick city ghosts. typical pretentious post-rock band name for pretentious post-rock music, but issa nice album |
Relinquished
05.03.18 | Pelican - The Fire In Our Throats Will Beckon the Thaw
the band that on this record perfectly rode on the line of post-rock and post-metal |
teamster
05.04.18 | pg.lost - Versus is currently my favorite post rock album. Try it. |
AsleepInTheBack
05.04.18 | 'pg.lost - It's not me, it's you!' is also a beaut of a record |
splinter
05.04.18 | @Relinquished thanks
@teamster & AsleepInTheBack I'll try both of them, thx! |
