Everyone saying Korn and Bizkit should be here probably never gave these bands the time of day, because most of these are far superior.
0GuyMan0 04.25.18	I could write a dissertation on this, but most nu-metal isn't even what people are really thinking of when they say nu-metal. Korn / POD / Limp Bizkit are what people mean when they are thinking of nu-metal in the negative. ZERO of the bands above fit that mold. Alt-metal would have been a far more apt tag for most of these bands of the late 90's and early 00's.

Exactly, even Deftones themselves say "Around The Fur" isn't Nu-Metal and that they were pegged with the Nu-Metal label with the release of "Adrenaline" and they made it a point to distance themselves from said label.

Middle18 04.25.18	@0GuyMan0 Apex theory were criminally underrated. Nu-metal has always been my favourite genre as laughable as that is.....its the music I grew up with so I guess I identify with it. I can see why people hate on it but you like what you like at the end of the day.

Well, all I said was Deftones wasn't Nu-Metal with the exception of "Adrenaline", lol. But first and foremost, Korn were the early pioneers in Nu-Metal, and thinking about it, I would even say all the way to the Issues album, maybeeeee Untouchables. But back to your question, i would say Limp Bizkit, Hed P.E., Spineshank, the first Staind LP, Kittie, Cold, Sevendust, possibly the first Linkin Park album, Taproot, Adema...I could literally go on and on. Early incarnations were more or less influences, like Mr. Bungle, Faith No More, Helmet, Infectious Grooves, later-era Suicidal Tendencies, the list goes on and on. Now, there are some bands that unfairly get lumped into the Nu-Metal genre just because they were a "rock" band at the time. Bands like System Of A Down, later-era Deftones, Orgy, Tool, Slipknot, P.O.D., Sepultura, Alien Ant Farm, Biohazard, etc etc. THEN there are bands who are "Nu-Metal" that are actually just butt rock, and that's bands like Godsmack, Saliva, Papa Roach, Disturbed, Drowning Pool, American Head Charge, and THAT list can go on and on as well to even up to today with bands like Five Finger Death Punch and shit bands like that. I just realized I typed a shitload and this is really only my opinion. Hope I answered your question :]
