| Top 10 Alice In Chains songs (IMO)
If you're new to the band, you can start here. | | 12 | | Alice in Chains Dirt
Honorable mention: ''Dam That River'' from Dirt. A straightforward rocker. Very heavy and catchy. | | 11 | | Alice in Chains Alice in Chains
Honorable mention: ''Head Creeps'' from the self-titled album. It's probably Alice in Chains' heaviest song as far as riffs go. The song has a drugged out, unhinged quality that most of the album has. | | 10 | | Alice in Chains Alice in Chains
''Frogs'' from the band's self-titled album is a unique song for the band. It's incredibly barren and bleak sounding. Layne Staley sounds like he's lying on a mattress somewhere in a dirty room singing these lyrics as a sort of random stream of consciousness poem. The lines where he says ''Next week I'll be 28...I'm still young'' and the way he talks about expiration dates should give anybody the creeps. | | 9 | | Alice in Chains Facelift
''Love, Hate, Love'' from Facelift is a vocal standout from Staley's career, which is really saying a lot considering how much of a powerhouse he was. Seems to be a tortured love song (maybe it's about drugs?) Staley sounds like he's in absolute agony during the song and the instrumentation provides a nice, heavy backdrop. | | 8 | | Alice in Chains Dirt
''Rain When I Die'' from Dirt is a really dirgy song and Layne's vocal performance on the track's chorus is incredible. | | 7 | | Alice in Chains MTV Unplugged
''Down In a Hole'' from the MTV Unplugged performance is an unsettling and tragic thing to listen to and watch. Layne Staley's shrill appearance coupled with the lyrical themes of helplessness make for a powerful version of the song. | | 6 | | Alice in Chains Facelift
''Bleed The Freak'' from Facelift is a dark song with a moody guitar line, and again, Layne's vocals here are deranged sounding and the chorus really soars once again. This has to be one of their darkest sounding songs. There's a creepy laugh in the 'bridge' of the song and some indecipherable talking. | | 5 | | Alice in Chains Jar of Flies
''Nutshell'' from Jar of Flies is the standard bearer when it comes to Alice in Chains' sad songs. What makes this song stand out from other sad songs in their discography, though, is the stripped down quality of the instrumentation and the ghostly quality the vocals have. It sounds like Layne has been drained of life. Seemingly about a guy that made his bed and has to lie in it while the public callously watches him crumble and uses it for news and gossip. It's a very bluesy song. Really a downer song. Can ruin a mood quickly. | | 4 | | Alice in Chains Dirt
''Would?'' from Dirt definitely deserves to be in the top 5. A thick, dirty bass opens the song up before the riff and drums join in and all three work together to form this menacing and groovy sound. The lyrics are dark and deal with the subject of regret and being a slave to addiction. Staley's vocals during the chorus are powerful and passionate. | | 3 | | Alice in Chains Jar of Flies
''I Stay Away'' from Jar of Flies is probably Layne's best vocal performance in his entire career (at least my favorite) the ''chorus'' here is awesome. There's some orchestral instrumentation in the song and behind Staley that makes it sound very cinematic and powerful. It's quirky enough to be fun and charming, and powerful enough to leave a lasting impact on the listener. | | 2 | | Alice in Chains Dirt
''Them Bones'' from the album Dirt. If 'Dam That River' is a rocker, this song is like it's older, more badass brother. Probably Alice In Chains' catchiest song. Killer riff, excellent drumming, etc. This song is very immediate. Great song for first time listeners. There's also a NASTY solo in the song. | | 1 | | Alice in Chains Facelift
''Man in the Box'' remains the archetypal AIC song and the best entry point for new listeners. The song has everything Alice in Chains do best, excellent riffing, a unique and massive vocal performance from Staley, awesome solo and great backing vocals from Cantrell. Maybe the song has been overplayed over the years, but for good reason. It kicks ass. | |

04.03.18 | These are good picks, especially the MTV version of "Down in a Hole". I would've wanted "Rooster" in here and probably more rep from BGWTB (I like it better than most). From that one you'd have to have "A Looking in View" or "Your Decision". | Flashmobba

04.03.18 | or Acid Bubble | Egarran
04.03.18 | Sickman - Song is just badass. Choke on me, my friend.
God Am - I was obsessed with this song for a long time.
Junkhead - Doom grunge supreme.
Sludge Factory - The atmosphere is so thick, and then that heartbreaking chorus.
