Good Steaks So Far

2018 has been pretty cool so far, a lot of new discoveries for me. Not everything on here is from 2018, but still great nonetheless
1Thornhill
Butterfly

Really nice proggy metalcore from Australia, with an incredible vocalist who has strong cleans and nice screams. Guitar work on this is stellar, and them drums go OFF on some songs.

Joy, Sunflower, Parasite, and Reptile fucking GO my guy
2Aviations
The Light Years

Dope djenty jazz fusion. Rather than dark tones and somber atmosphere, this relies on upbeat melodies and jazz elements to push the record along, and it's done exceptionally well.

Concrete Kitten, Tornado, and Two Days rule
3Coletta
Mind and Time

Proggy post-hardcore in a similar vein to Hail The Sun, Sianvar, and somewhat Dance Gavin Dance. Very poppy at times which blends perfectly over the almost summery vibes the EP gives off.

Blossom, Raspberry Cough, and The Bee's Knees are the bee's knees hehe haha
4All That We See
May You Find Your Worth

Nice proggy metalcore with excellent lead guitar work. Vocal mixing could use some work, but overall a solid effort

Milestone, Where I End, and The Ladder are dope
5August Burns Red
Messengers Remixed

This is cheating a bit, but goddamn this remix sounds a thousand times better than the original mix

Back Burner and Composure man, come on bro you already know the jams on this
6AMOR
Love Vs Logic

Fun poppy post-hardcore backed by a strong vocalist, I got hooked on this for a good few weeks

Poison Play, Heart Locker, and Collisions are dope
7For the Fallen Dreams
Six

Originally straight up metalcore for the bros, FTFD take a more melodic approach to this album and it works wonders. Chad utilizes a yell and a high scream on this, giving vocal variety as opposed to just his lows, and the guitarist really carries this with his choruses

Stone, Burning Season, Two Graves, Hypnosis, and The Storm are fantastic
8Rolo Tomassi
Time Will Die And Love Will Bury It

I don't even really know how to describe this genre wise. There's some droney ambient parts, some hectic mathy shit, some hardcore shit, and they mix it all together to make an incredible sounding unit.

Rituals, Whispers Among Us, Contretemps are the jams
9Chorder
The Experiment

Here starts the shit not from this year. This is some djenty shit ala After The Burial, with a more hardcore feel because of the vocalist's style

Recalcitrance, Identic, and Rapscallion go hard af my guy
10Fear Before
The Always Open Mouth

I don't know why I slept on this for so long, but I'm glad I finally got around to listening to this. This shit is catchy, heavy, and has great atmospheric moments. Give this a fucking listen

Drowning The Old Hag, Lycanthropy, and โ€ฆAs A Result of Signals Being Crossed are the dope
11Modern Life Is War
Witness

Hardcore classic right here, I was grabbed by this immediately. Powerful and emotional vocals on top of some crushing hardcore instrumentation is the name of the game here, and they do it perfectly

John and Jimmy, The Outsiders, and Hair Raising Accounts Of Ghosts go in
12Meshuggah
Nothing (Re-release)

BOI. I knew a lot of my favorite bands were inspired by Meshuggah, and I had heard obZen before, but goddamn this album was dope. Groovy, heavy, and fucking awesome bros

Rational Gaze, Perpetual Black Second, and Straws Pulled At Random go fucking IN
13Wolves and Machines
Since Before Our Time

Indie rock with post hardcore elements, and it's done nigh perfectly. Strong vocalist with fun vocal melodies, and guitarists who really know their way around a fret board.

Only Drowning Men, Stay Separate, Bury The Bones, and Like Holding Breath are my standouts
