Inveigh 02.14.18	I wear earplugs at 80% of the shows I go to. If it's a death metal, sludge or post-metal show, I'm generally wearing them. ear health is important. I didn't wear plugs for the first few years I played in a band, let alone going to shows, and paid the price.
JS19 02.14.18	One concert can wreck your hearing instantly. Be smart and use earplugs ppl (i have standard etymotic ones because i keep losing them but does the trick) - it's like using a seat belt in a car, completely moronic not to and literally only driven by stupid bravado
BigPleb 02.14.18	I normally just get them at the concert but yeah, definitely recommend wearing them. Blocks out all those nasty frequencies and gives you a more full, round sound tbh.

Davil667 02.14.18	Would never go to a show without earplugs, I just can't enjoy the music if it's too loud. In some cases it's even too loud with earplugs for my liking. What sense does it make to turn up the volume to a level where nothing is distinguishable anymore? Totally destroys the music and the experience for me...
BigBlob 02.14.18	honestly have no idea why most bands have their volume so fking loud. fair enough if its a massive venue, but the number of times I've been to a small gig and the whole sound is turned up to 11. the noise just bounces around and sounds like a mess
JS19 02.14.18	In a small venue, the sound system isn't as refined - and you need to balance the sound against the drum kit which means it's way easier to just boost the volume so it's level than mess about with each individual instrument I've found anyway

DinosaurJones 02.14.18	I almost always wear earplugs to shows. There are some I've been to where I wait until it starts to see if it's a comfortable level without them, but I always have them on me. I also play at/go to a lot of local shows, and people are retarded as shit and don't know how to play for smaller rooms and just want to play as loud as possible. In short, I wear ear plugs a lot. Band practice, local shows, big shows.
Feather 02.14.18	Wow. I had no idea earplugs were such a common practice... good to know! I guess I should have started wearing them earlier. Honestly the sound at these last 3 shows was all better with the earplugs in. Took some getting used to at the first show. @mortifier I see what you are saying. I can imagine a large outdoor venue being fine without them, but its those tiny hardcore shows in an enclosed space where I feel like I really need them
RogueNine 02.14.18	I don't go to many shows but I don't wear 'em. Having said that, I probably should. And you're definitely not alone. At the metal shows I've been to, seems like the folks who wear earplugs slightly outweigh those who don't.
Feather 02.15.18	@Rogue If you get em, I don't think you'd regret it. Can't speak for any other brands and such, but the ones I got I feel like I could really hear all the music better. On another note, maybe I just didn't realize people were wearing them because many aren't noticeable. Mine are completely transparent and really jammed in the ear so people can't really see them.

BenThatsMyJamin 02.15.18	I'm going to Converge + Crowbar in April which will undoubtedly be incredibly loud and was thinking about getting some 'plugs for that and future. Just wondering if they are able to stay in whilst moshing/violently headbanging (I mean, Converge and fucking Crowbar at the same show...) as I want to get some hi-fidelity ones but they won't be worth it there's a chance of me losing them in a pit

WatchItExplode 02.15.18	One Built to Spill show where Doug messed with his looper for a half hour got some really nasty frequencies going, made me physically ill, and left me feeling like I was at the bottom of a swimming pool for a week. Def sport earplugs for most indoor shows, and try to stick to outdoor venues just because of that experience.

Colton 10.20.21	had a very bad ear pain/ringing problem earlier this year to the point where I couldn't listen to music for days. one day when I was listening to music I felt a very intense pain in my ear. and then my ears were just fucked for days. will always wear earplugs at concerts if I even decide to ever go to one, probably won't for a while

bgillesp 10.20.21	Had no idea they made earplugs meant for making concerts still sound good. Never tried earplugs because I assumed they would all distort which frequencies were coming through or something (not that that makes a ton of sense but I’d never thought about it much). Might actually order some of these and try them if I ever get the chance to go to shows again with my schedule

GhandhiLion 10.20.21	@colton Earphones channel the sounds directly into the ear canal which is more damaging. They also push the earwax deeper into your ear (This was common for me when I was younger) meaning that you have to turn the volume up more.
GhandhiLion 10.20.21	There's a rule that says something like, less than 60 db(60%?) for 60minutes a day. I remember finding out that you actually need lower than that to prevent damage. And that's without taking multiple hours into consideration.
