Saros' 2017

Things I liked and disliked in 2017.
1Red Vox
Another Light

My most anticipated album of the year ended up being my favorite album of the year. It took until the end of the year to come out after numerous delays, but I'd say the wait was worth it. I really liked their last album a lot, but this one really took it further. Along with listening to In the Garden for the majority of the year, I've found new favorites in songs like Memento Mori and Tell Me. The added focus of atmosphere for this album really helped in my opinion.
2Shoji Meguro
Persona 5 Original Soundtrack

What a year for video games it was. 2017 is honestly one of the best years of gaming in a while, with so many great titles coming out including Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, Yakuza 0/Kiwami and of course P5, probably my GOTY. The Persona series has always been known for having top-notch soundtracks, and the OST for P5 is no different. Granted, I'm still not sure if I like this more than P3's soundtrack, but this is definitely up there. Beneath the Mask has already become one of my favorite songs ever, and Life Will Change is still as hype as the first time I heard it.
3Brian Eno
Reflection

It still amazes me how almost 40 years after Ambient 1 was released, Eno still manages to put out quality albums.
4Tom Rogerson with Brian Eno
Finding Shore

Speaking of Eno, although he may have taken a bit of a backseat role for this one, he still manages to make it work like any other collaboration he's done. I've honestly never heard of Tom Rogerson, but if his own work is as good as this, then I may have to give him a chance.
5Polkadot Stingray
Zenchi Zennou

I can't really remember how I found this band in the first place, but I'm glad I did. Fun alternative rock with great instrument work and neat female vocals. Oh, and their music videos are pretty fun too.
6The Pillows
Nook in the Brain

Probably their best album in a while, and considering their recent run of albums, that's saying something. Still eagerly awaiting to see what they have in store for the new FLCL episodes, even if I'm not really expecting too much from the show itself.
7Bonobo
Migration

Bonobo adds yet another great album to his repertoire. It's no Black Sands, but it'll do.
8Damu The Fudgemunk
Vignettes

Two hours of instrumental hip-hop. Pretty ambitious, yet Damu manages to make it work, at least somewhat.
9Suiyoubi no Campanella
SUPERMAN

Upbeat Japanese hip-hop combined with a warm, lush production makes for quite the fun listen. I don't think I liked this as much as other people did, but it's still a great album nevertheless.
10Fox Capture Plan
Fragile

Probably their weakest so far, yet there's still some good stuff here and there.
11NIKK BLVKK
Last Light

I honestly can't remember much about this album since I first heard it earlier in the year. I remember it being some pretty good instrumental hip-hop, but I didn't really listen to it much.
12Gorillaz
Humanz

This has grown on me since the first couple of times I heard it, but I still can't help but feel a bit disappointed. I don't feel this was worth the wait/hype for all these years. Oh well, Andromeda and She's My Collar are pretty good songs though. But overall, as much as I wanted to really like this, I couldn't.
13Queens of the Stone Age
Villains

My least favorite Queens album, and such a letdown considering it came after Like Clockwork. There's a few good moments here and there, but I'd take Era Vulgaris over this.
14DJ Okawari
Compass

Yeah, I've never really been into this guy's music that much. This one is more of the same.
