10 Years of Awaiting This Cross

Technically it was yesterday, but I've been active under this same handle for a whole damn decade. Chatted/made friends with a lot of people, some who aren't around anymore, some I know on Facebook and some I might only chat with on here. The community's always had its moments of discord, and I've threatened to myself to stop but really, it's such a great forum of music and fellowship and hearty shit-giving I haven't managed to stop staring at that header pretty much every single day for 10 years. Cheers, everyone. Much love.
1maudlin of the Well
Bath

ostensibly my favorite album of evertimes, discovered through Sputnik. i'm friends with Toby Driver now and his shitpost earlier made my morning. go figure.
2Enslaved
Vertebrae

my first black metal album came out in '08 on Nuclear Blast isn't that tr00 kvlt, also probably owed to Sputnik-spelunking to find out this even existed (I'm a very sheltered Midwestern baby) but this defined about 5 years of other listening for me
3Swans
The Seer

when this came out Deathspell Omega was as "complex" as I got I'm pretty sure, which is hilarious. this marked another abrupt corner-turn in what I listened to, and I still remember rushing about Googly-searching this AFTER seeing the ridiculous hype on Sputnik so...there you go, nostalgic ties.
4Kanye West
My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

man, I never like rap, hip-hop, anything you'd categorize as those. i was one of those "anything but rap or country but i really mean just Green Day or Slipknot" little shits. again, it's not Illmatic or Midnight Marauders but the hype on here for this is what made me finally listen
5Discordance Axis
The Inalienable Dreamless

i can't make this list and not mention this. this is why the word "ostensibly" is in the description for Bath. how is 27 minutes of semi-improvised shrieking grind such a beautiful, potent record with such longevity?
6The Tallest Man on Earth
The Wild Hunt

2010 was a terrible year for me, so a lot of albums from that year really stuck with me. It helps a lot of them are FRIGGIN FANTASTIC. also I think this was when I finally ceased listening to metal exclusively ha
7The National
High Violet

kinda ties in with 6, both have those lyrics i'm wondering if it's still too early to get them as tattoos, ya know? ha i'm a dick
8Corrupted
Garten Der Unbewusstheit

man even the obscure ones I came to late. I think i was pretty solidly embedded in doom obsession by this time, but this definitely kickstarted my hard-to-find record collection and my web of Discogs orders
9Death Grips
The Money Store

gotta love Sputnik for the wildly varying opinions flying like tomatoes in a cartoon food fight, not to mention commentary on the stupid shit bands pull irl and watching them go from hot mixtape to pretentious joke over a couple of years. this is still the best deth gripz
10Macronympha
Intensive Care

woo this list got dark! well...currently this is what I'm digging, along with Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and a bunch of other harsh noise/PE stuff. NEVER would've listened to any of it in my LIFE had I not been on here, I guarantee. Thanks everybody.
