Neek's Fat 500 Ranks

A deconstruction of all of Sputnik's shit rating system and why it makes everything so much harder than it should.
1Queens of the Stone Age
...Like Clockwork

5.0/5: Perfect
The term "classic" is so confusing. Sure, "Sgt. Pepper" is a classic, but is it a 5/5 album? A 5/5 album has to be a personal feeling, not an objective definition. These albums are perfect in my mind, some seamless blend of emotion and musicality that might not be appreciated by others, but just hits that perfect spot for me.

Hurry Up, We're Dreaming

4.5/5: Amazing
Something absolutely deserving of acclaim, some astounding feat of songwriting, lyricism, musicianship, melody, or probably everything combined. These are more than just "great," yet are flawed in some small way that nevertheless keeps them from becoming truly perfect. However, there's always room for growth, and who's to say these won't hit the mark someday?
3Pink Floyd
The Division Bell

4.0/5: Great
What's the difference between "excellent" and "superb"? They're literal synonyms. The first definition of superb on google is "1. excellent." Sputnik is insane, but I can tell you that something of a 4/5 deserve nothing more or less than to be considered a great album. These albums have incredible strengths and while still retaining obvious weaknesses, they are far more memorable and captivating than their 3.5 brothers. Finding the different between these two ratings is probably the hardest to do.
4Kanye West
Graduation

3.5/5: Good
Why tf is 3.5 considered "great" in Sputnik terms? Since when was a 7/10 great? What's the difference between great and excellent? You guys have the most confusing and fucked up rating system ever. It's the main reason why it took me so long to make an account tbh. These albums have strengths that far outweigh their faults, but they're messy and/or even enough where I'm not compelled to go out and purchase them, or even jam them very often. These are my "yeah I enjoyed these while they lasted" albums.
5Green Day
1039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours

3.0/5: Decent
There's got to be something in between "good" and "average" guys. These albums to me feature something truly enjoyable or redeemable to them, but I'm just not able to get into them. They may feature strong songwriting or creativity that helps them to stand above from the rest of the pack, but not enough for me too "like" them per se.
6Lady Gaga
Artpop

2.5/5: Okay
This album was either consistently moderate, or all the great things and tracks on it were hampered down by terrible counterpoints that completely robbed them of their merit. These albums might feature a song or two that's worthwhile, but should otherwise be avoided as a whole.
7Black Sabbath
Born Again

2.0/5: Poor
Yup, these are just plain unlikable albums. There's certainly some redeeming factors, such as a talented band member, some solid songs, or competent lyrics, but overall it's just a mess that isn't even worth trying out in the first place.
8Justin Bieber
My World 2.0

1.5/5: Bad
"Very Poor"? Come on guys, at least you a synonym or something here. These albums should never have been made, purely unentertaining or just plain boring as shit, yet there remains one or two kernels of value that stop me from completely smiting it with the deadly 1/5.
9Sachiko M
Bar Sachiko

1.0/5: Awful
Irredeemably bad. There's nothing that makes this even a little bit enjoyable or listenable. Nothing can save this album, and nothing could excuse me from listening to it ever again. These make me regret my "3-listen rule" so much that I only listen twice (I know I'm insane.)
10Sufjan Stevens
