09.27.17 | There's a difference between "great" and GREAT. I interpret "3.5 - great" to mean the former not the latter. There you go. |
dctarga
09.27.17 | Nice idea Neeka, a lot of my ratings are based off of "Well, is this really "excellent" or is it merely "great"?" more than they should be. The actual word plays more into it than the number sometimes
And yeah check out "We Own The Sky" if you haven't heard that M83 song yet |
Drifter
09.27.17 | Neg for 5
But pos for 15 ♥ |

09.27.17 | Nice 500! |

dctarga
09.27.17 | Nice! |
neekafat
09.27.17 | What's your favorite M83 album? |
dctarga
09.27.17 | I haven't really done a deep dive on them yet, only heard that one song because it came on my friends Pandora one time. So I would have to say Hurry Up, just cause that's the only one I've heard most of.
And for real I know it's the single, but that trumpet or w/e at the end of Midnight City is just....goddamn gives me an eargasm idk
Deeeee-doo, Deeeee-doo, Deeeeee-doo. *Tears* |
neekafat
09.27.17 | Midnight City is fuckin' rad man, I don't know why people always feel guilty for liking that one haha, you should check out the music video trilogy they did for that, Wait, and Reunion City! |
Drifter
09.27.17 | Midnight City is an eternal jam |
dctarga
09.27.17 | Good deal, will do neekabro!
Still gotta get through The Killers new jam though, listened to "The Man" and was like uhh ok maybe I'm not ready to do this yet lol |
neekafat
09.27.17 | Lemme know whatcha think man, Wait's is almost as devastating as the song itself! |
Drifter
09.27.17 | I feel like you put 1039 up there just to trigger me |
superluminals
09.27.17 | I feel eventually you sorta develop your own rating system and assign your own meaning to the numbers, that's my take on it.
I certainly don't stick to sputnik's rating system and I consider my 3.0s to be throughly enjoyable |
BlushfulHippocrene
09.27.17 | Neeka ! < 3 Great work and congrats on 500. ((: I would disagree a little on the 3.0/3.5 distinction. I consider a 6/10 good. Nothing particularly special, but definitely good. And so 7/10 would be a *very* good - which I'd define as great, but then again, most definitions of great kind of almost mean the same as amazing or excellent, in that they all mean considerably above average, so I get where you're coming from with that one. But all the rest I agree on, especially your 5.0 description. Also, what a 500th rating! |
neekafat
09.27.17 | @Drifter, you're not entirely wrong...
@superluminals, that's fair man!
Blushful!! Thanks dude (: That makes sense to me, I just feel like there has to be a buffer between something average and something truly good, but to each their own I suppose! Indeed, how do you feel about Sufjan? I've had some trouble enjoying him until that album, which I still feel like I don't like as everyone else but still haha |
BlushfulHippocrene
09.27.17 | I understand that for sure. I also suppose within that context that ratings are, more often than not, weighted towards "liking" something, which I think is kind of helpful and is less jaded and clinical than using 2.5 as an exact midpoint. It almost encourages giving merit to albums that you don't necessarily *like*, but still think are kind of "good" based on some """objective""" standard.
With regard to Sufjan, I getcha. While I do think that Illinois probably deserves a 4+, I haven't rated it because for whatever reason it just doesn't click with me - I couldn't name a single track on that album. Have you listened to All Delighted People? It's definitely the album (EP) that broke through to me, and IMO is his most easily digested (despite how over the top it is), bar something like Carrie and Lowell. |
Toad
09.27.17 | i dont respect anyone with a sub-80 objectivity rating |
neekafat
09.27.17 | @Blushful, I suppose that's fair, never thought of it that way! Yeah I hear you, it didn't click with me totally either. I haven't heard that yet but it's up next before Age of Adz and I wasn't sure if I was gonna jam it but I suppose I'll have to now!
@Toad, but I like your kermit av ):
@sixdegrees what isn't? |
Toad
09.27.17 | lol i joke m'boi
i just started grading harder bc the bottom end of my spectrum had a lot of space and now i can better differentiate between my 3's, 3.5's, 4's and 4.5's |
neekafat
09.27.17 | @nocuffin, the gift that keeps on giving, don't think I can ever change it
@Toad, haha that's an interesting way of fixing the problem |

08.03.18 | 5 - perfect for what I want it to be
4.5 - gonna be a top 10 album of the year for sure
4 - yeah dis real good
3.5 - this is nice I'll forget about it in a few months
3 - I don't hate it
2.5 - I kinda hate it
2 - I hate it
1.5 - fuck this
1 - buckcherrry |
Papa Universe
08.03.18 | 10/9 - 5; 8 - 4.5; 7 - 4; 6 - 3.5/3; 5 - 2.5; 4 - 2; 3 - 1.5; 2/1 - 1 |
neekafat
08.03.18 | Papa that doesn't make any sense
@Sowing yes but I don't hate my 2.5s much at all. My 2s, though... I just don't rate negatively so if you get a 2 you really fucked up |
neekafat
08.03.18 | I agree on your 3.5 and up hard though |
Pheromone
08.03.18 | I agree about that 3 listen rule! I quite like Sput's rating system though, although tbh I wouldn't even be able to tell you which rating is 'excellent' and which is 'superb' without thinking for a little while so I just sorta do it more on the N/5 rating than anything else.
|
klap
08.03.18 | "5 - perfect for what I want it to be

this is the correct take |
Papa Universe
08.03.18 | "Papa that doesn't make any sense"
yes, it does |
neekafat
08.03.18 | No it doesn't. Just divide it by two jesus christ |
neekafat
08.03.18 | "although tbh I wouldn't even be able to tell you which rating is 'excellent' and which is 'superb' without thinking for a little while"
My main gripe, would be fixed if they just bumped up the "good" and "great" ones up to where they should be. And yeah, sometime I slack and just do two listens but still pretty rarely haha! |
Papa Universe
08.03.18 | it makes perfect sense.
if I divide it by two, then yes, 8=4.0 and 7=3.5, but I feel like most albums I'd give 7/10 to are somewhat above Sputnik's understanding of 3.5. some 6/10s are just decent albums, but not something I'd consider returning to, hence 3.0, but some I might revisit, hence 3.5.
from plain mathematical perspective the division by two works just fine, but it is not an accurate representation of what I feel about those album. |
neekafat
08.03.18 | You think that a 7 is more than "great"?
I mean, you do you, it's just weird to me |
Papa Universe
08.03.18 | I think it's "excellent" |
neekafat
08.03.18 | A 7 is good and nothing more ughhhhhhhh |
Papa Universe
08.03.18 | you know, great, good and excellent are all words describing something opposite of bad, so 7/10 is simultaneously good, great and excellent and it doesn't matter what you call it.
peace, love, raspberries |
neekafat
08.03.18 | BOI
I mean yeah |
neekafat
08.03.18 | But if I ain't here to argue unimportant semantics relating to music then why am I here |
Papa Universe
08.03.18 | to rate, to proclaim your love for mediocre pedo emo bands and eat raspberries |
BlushfulHippocrene
08.04.18 | Reading this again: I agree the words accompanying the number ratings are a bit silly (accounting for the fact that most of the positive descriptors are synonyms of one another and therefore extremely subjective), but your 2.5-4.0 ratings actually confuse me a bit. Your rating system is definitely skewed toward the negative side (by your own admission, you wouldn't say you LIKE your 3.0s), despite -- like most people -- finding more things you enjoy than you don't, hence your 67% """objectivity""". Therefore, 2.5 really isn't anywhere close to a midpoint for you, right? Feels like you're just shifting the 2.5 to a 3.0. |
Zeuzo
08.04.18 | When will you notice this MX you retard |
neekafat
09.21.18 | Nah 2.5 is definitely a midpoint
3.0 has a lot of enjoyable bits to it, it's not GOOD but it's solid |
Drifter
09.21.18 | Solid means good |
