The National studio albums ranked (SWB included)

The National have become one of their favorite bands ever since I first discovered them, so I dug into their 7 studio albums and ranked them. The only ones I can do without are their first two albums, but they are pretty good as well.

5The National
Boxer

Of the 5 masterpieces the band have created, this is the one I feel is the most overrated, and is my least favorite of them. But it's still an excellent record.
4The National
Alligator

The band's breakthrough and deservedly so.
3The National
Sleep Well Beast

The latest album from them. I may be overranking this a bit over Alligator, or underranking this behind Trouble Will Find Me. This it is my AOTY so far and will likely continue to be even after 2017 ends. On first listen, I found almost every track to be excellent. ("Empire Line" is the only one I can do without, but it's a pretty good track still) Highlights include "Day I Die", "The System Only Dreams in Total Darkness", "Carin at the Liquor Store", "Nobody Else Will Be There", "Dark Side of the Gym" and "Walk It Back". I'll do a ranking of the album soon.
2The National
Trouble Will Find Me

I know this is a little too high for some people, but this record is one I hold in high regard, since it was the first National record I heard. The song delivers some of my favorite songs from them like "Pink Rabbits", "I Need My Girl" and "Graceless". With that said, it's not my favorite from them and that honor goes to...
1The National
High Violet

A near perfect album and a masterpiece. Nearly every song (save "Lemonworld") is great to excellent. Highlights include "Sorrow", "Runaway", "Conversation 16" and "Bloodbuzz Ohio". Definitely a must listen.
