Genre King- part 4

I don't think I need to explain this, y'all know the deal. Those still in- sinternet, macman, archelirion, Dinosaur Jones, Danielito, Joeman82, Mort., pjorn, demonofthefall, Nero Corleone, ComeToDaddy, Landdiving. What will this round bring? Will it be....
1Death in June
But, What Ends When the Symbols Shatter?

Folk. Or neofolk. Or indie folk. Idc.
2Black Kirin
XiaoShao

Archelirion-Yellow River

Dude this rocks. The folk and metalcore/melodeath influences are balanced incredibly well and are so seamlessly intertwined. There are so many parts that are fantastic on there own as well, the instrumental swell in the beginning, the pained shrieks coupled with gorgeous guitar work around 5 minutes in. It feels so authentic, so raw and natural yet so clear and pristine, and, most importantly, in touch with the country it's trying to represent. 4.3/5
3Fleet Foxes
Fleet Foxes

macman-White Winter Hymnal

Nice lil cute song. Don't know what else to say, certainly sounds like a white winter hymn. 3.6/5
4Empyrium
Weiland

ComeToDaddy- Die Schwäne Im Schilf

I'm really digging the slow and somber mood set here, the light howls and chants in the beginning paired with that lovely acoustic really fit the mood well. I also enjoy all the little nuances in the music that I didn't notice initially, such as the violin and piano work that slowly fades in and out of the music. It didn't have quite the bombastic climax I was expecting but those harsh vox really pack a hard punch around 3 and a half minutes in. 3.9/5.
5Days N Daze
Rogue Taxidermy

Landdiving-Misanthropic Drunken Loner

Not gonna lie, the vocals are shit. But they're a perfect shit, like they fit the raw and down to earth sound of this song very well. I also love the very uplifting message of the song, stating that it's ok to want to be alone because sometimes people are just too difficult to understand or deal with. "people are ugly, and people are hateful, and destructive and greedy and we're all ungrateful". It's stated in such a way that you're like you know what? People suck. That's ok, I just won't deal with them. It's a very blissful, carefree song, and while it may be the very definition of hippie culture, I think that's just fine. Besides, doesn't it make more sense to be at peace with yourself when you only have 60,70,80 years to live? 4.5/5

6The Smith Street Band
More Scared Of You Than You Are Of Me

Joeman82- 25

Like a good joeman told me "he can't sing but it's ok because he sings his heart out". Sometimes it's just like, well so fucking what if you can't sing worth shit? Should that stop you from doing it and loving it? Nah boy rock that shit. I also want to add that the guitar work, as well as actual song structure, is strong here. It's equally energetic and passionate and knows when to support the vocals and when to shine for themselves. Easy 4.2/5.
7Foreign Fields
Anywhere But Where I Am

Sinternet- names and races

Cute lil track, bringing them peaceful vibes, so yeah it fucking sucked 3.5/5.

8The Angels of Light
How I Loved You

Nerocorleone- My Suicide

I quite enjoyed this, mostly because I really have a thing for deep jazzy baritone vocals. His voice is so forlorn, sounding both enraged and filled with despair at the same time. Is it a sort of typical anti-love song? Kind of. Is it still perfect? Yes. 4/5.
9Sycamore Smith
Redux

DinosaurJones-Abigail Crow

I have an extremely hard time both taking this seriously or getting a good laugh at this song. I mean, it's a story about a girl who steps on a bear trap, then works underground her whole life. I was really just left thinking "oh yeah huh that happened yeah sucks". The vocalist was about as indistinguishable as they come, but he was at least passable. Then, a kazoo solo. No one, no one at all told him "hey maybe this is a terrible idea dude", which is quite worrying. Sorry man, really did not like this 2.2/5.

10The Mountain Goats
All Hail West Texas

pjorn-The Best Ever Death Metal Band in Denton

Not much I can honestly say about this song other than it's a really sweet, chill acoustic piece. The message here is both staggering and true-even if you think someones dream is stupid you should never crush it, because there dream will in time outlive the ones you let die. "When you punish a person for dreaming his dream, don't expect him to thank or forgive you. The best ever death metal band in Denton will in time both outlive and outpace you" 4.3/5
11Elliott Smith
Elliott Smith

danielito-St. Ideas Heaven.

This song is so oddly bittersweet. It's a very bleak, despair-filled outlook on the troubles of life. I don't know much about Elliot Smith or his life, but I think it can be said he was definitely at the bottom of the barrel when he wrote this. "everybody can see i'm no good, when i'm walking out between parked cars, with my head full of stars". Maybe i'm wrong, but this feels like it's about dead dreams, or how at least he has dead dreams. What can weight more heavily on the soul than that? Even song meaning aside, Elliots voice is beautiful. It's smooth and melancholy, like waking into a dream you are unsure about whether or not you'd want to escape. 4.5/5
