05.17.17 | My take on it is this.
It doesn't get better than America to kick things off. They are the real deal innovators but fuck me it gets franchised within 5 seconds and everything is diluted within a week.
That spark burns bright though and it registers.
It registered to undernourished kids with polio who played in streets that still bore the signs of WWII. Air raid shelters, ruins and bomb craters hence the Brit rock bands of the 60s and 70s had balls the size of Birmingham and couldn't give the first fuck about how straight their teeth looked until America called and tried to mold it.
Brit punk initially harnessed that fuck it spirit and why not given how shite 70s Britain was but you can't control it. It died before it could be sold.
Your 80s alt bands always carry that piss taking tounge in cheek attitude underneath the gloom while your Roses and electronic pioneers were genuine kids pilled off their tits being euphorically engaged and experimenting with new gadgets as well as their old instruments.
90s brought with it the package it, augment it franchise it bullshit and it's never been the same since.
