01.10.17 | OutKast! Either ATLiens or Aquemini. ((: If you didn't hate Views, you might enjoy his If You're Reading This mixtape. I have a feeling you'd dig Ghostface Killah's Twelve Reasons to Die, too, or his album with BBNG.
Most of these are quite grand in scope. You might like Flying Lotus for some instrumental stuff. Potsy's Super Hip Hop list is good too, if you're wanting to get into some of the older classics: http://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?listid=160687&memberid=1042215
For sure listen to Noname's Telefone if you enjoyed Chance, and check Acid Rap if you haven't. |

danielito19
01.10.17 | Danny Brown - XXX, Atrocity Exhibition |
Typhoon24
01.10.17 | you really gotta break it down by what draws you to hip hop:
do you like elaborate beats? listen to more of kanye and timbaland stuff
do you like clever mafioso street raps? early jay z and raekwon
Gangsta rap? Ice Cube, 'Pac
straight lyricism and minimalistic beats? WuTang
Scientific brain twisting lyrics? K-rino, canibus, gza
horrorcore/hardcore explicit raps? big L, D12, doppelgangaz
outkast were always my favorite because they blended everything I liked in rap in atliens and aquemini. (focused introspective vibes on atliens and energetic passion in aquemini). Find the first thing you really find yourself enjoying and go from there.
it really comes down to what you want |
SteveOffProbation

01.10.17 | slim shady lp and reasonable doubt are what opened the doors for hip hop for me. the first 2 rap albums that at the time i felt were flawless |

01.11.17 | Well this blew up
@Typhoon I guess I'm kinda in the minority that just really enjoys musicality in hip-hop, like the varied style of Kendrick's stuff (minus gkmc). I love beats with a lot of style and power to them, and lyrics about actually relevant things are a plus.
But at the same time I haven't listened to much so I'm trying to branch out and find what I really like! |
Keyblade

neekafat
06.28.17 | Ughhhhhh fineee |
Typhoon24
06.28.17 | after pac check out doom. madvillainy has great production and it's not 90s. or his best album vaudeville villain for some stylish and powerful beats. normally I would want you to start with rap from the late 80s and see it evolve, but going backwards usually works more often. soon you'll be jammin outkast (and im not talkin' about Hey Ya! outkast) and wutang |
neekafat
06.28.17 | Yeah going chronologically woulda been ideal but I'm already mostly through Kanye so it's a bit late for that haha |
