01.01.17 | Also ayyy first Sput list of 2017 (even though it's still 2016 in CA, Sput says it's 2017) - https://blackmalachite.bandcamp.com/track/dark-fade-single |
Sinternet
01.01.17 | so
you finally found a style that you could actually at least have some interesting ideas in
and you threw it all away to do My Tears Your Weapon 2.0
I really don't understand |
Snide
01.01.17 | @sinternet: not a permanent style, it's just for this EP |
Snake.

ScuroFantasma
01.01.17 | I have no idea what I think about this. |
zaruyache
01.01.17 | Ditch that spoken word bit at the beginning. And also those awful layered vox. Those sound bad whether used in deathcore or twenty year-old Deicide songs. If you're going to do the whole "play one riff the entire song and slowly build on it with electronics and whatsit" route, try to play up the goofiness a la Thy Catafalque's Sgurr record. |
ScuroFantasma
01.01.17 | Nah layered vocals are great, especially in 20 year old Deicide songs. |
Snide
01.01.17 | I love layered vox though |
Astral Abortis
01.01.17 | Yeah okay so this is possibly the worst thing I've ever heard, go back to making random electronic |
Futures
01.01.17 | probably better than michael snoxall- spooks |
Pon
01.01.17 | Left my thoughts snide bby. < 3 |
Astral Abortis
01.01.17 | It's "Spooks.", get it right |
zaruyache
01.01.17 | "I love layered vox though"
and we've been over why you shouldn't trust your own objectivity so trust me they're bad.
"especially in 20 year old Deicide songs"
no they're why super srs old school dm is often lolbad. Benton's vox were good on their own; they never needed any clownish screams overtop to make them sound eevil. |
SteakByrnes
01.01.17 | I've never been a fan of spoken word parts. I did like the instrumentals quite a bit, and the vocals weren't too shabby either |
SitruK6
01.01.17 | Will give a listen when i get back home from work |
robotmagician
01.01.17 | instead of ditching the spoken word part at the beginning just ditch the music altogether. also your lyrics don't even match te song? |
Snide
01.01.17 | Thank you everyone for the critique! |
Mort.
01.01.17 | the beginning bit is cringey as fuck get rid of it |
Snide
01.01.17 | The beginning part was really important to me though lyrically
Or do you just mean the delivery? |
Mort.
01.01.17 | the delivery and the lyrics
even if the lyrics are important to you maybe think of framing them in a more subtle way that isnt so overt and direct. less is more sometimes.
or just disregard my opinion at the end of the day because im sure you have a pretty clear vision of what sort of music you want to make and maybe our views just clash |
Snide
01.01.17 | Well if less is more as you say, and that a different approach would make them more powerful and impactful I'm all ears.
By subtle do you mean production wise? Or just in the vocal style I delivered them in? |
owen
01.01.17 | worst thing i've heard in 2017
and that isn't because it's the only thing i've heard this year |
BandNewbac
01.01.17 | Production is lacking a lot, it's basically non existent compositionally but at least some competent production could make it sound like a song |
Snide
01.01.17 | I'm not used to producing metalcore, electronic is a lot easier for me. This is just a little EP I wanted to make as a challenge. |
Snide
01.01.17 | "how about some reverse reverb + whammy bar"
Why whammy? |
Sevengill
01.01.17 | HWAMMY |
MercuryToHell
01.01.17 | Hate to play devil's advocate here, but I actually admire the constant pushing of new material as soon as the ideas form - with my work I still know I'm yet to find a definitive sound, so trial and error as an independent artist is a harmless way to develop your style.
This absolutely could use some improvement on the production front, but the whole 'I hate this because it's made by ...' thing really doesn't make any sense to me - the Black Malachite project for me has shown plenty of promise, and I genuinely believe that a great album will come from it at one point. |
Snide
01.01.17 | @Mercury: Thank you I seriously appreciate that man. |
MercuryToHell
01.01.17 | Don't mention it dude, I still bump Distortion World pretty regularly, as there's some great ideas in there - I think the EPs have been a little half-baked but I'd probably say the same about mine, they're just concepts that for me didn't make it into something bigger. |
Sevengill
01.01.17 | Sputnik is more fun with the Malachite saga, that's for sure. Sandboxing the EPs with the site's community is actually an interesting concept he's stumbled upon. |
Snide
01.01.17 | @Mercury: Well that's the whole thing with the EPs, they were all concepts that I wanted to do, but not enough to make a full album out of it. My third album is honestly gonna be even more stripped down than Void is (heavily acoustic / piano based, with even some slight country influence here and there)
@Seven: Sandboxing? |
Sevengill
01.01.17 | It means making versions to test how they work without committing to a finished project. A lot of your projects are conceptual and/or in-progress so pitching them that way and getting feedback from a very active community is actually a great idea. |
FullOfSounds
01.01.17 | Mmmm I don't know about this Snide |
Conmaniac
01.01.17 | listening now |
Conmaniac
01.01.17 | oh wow this is not like any of your electronic stuff at all uhm
yeah
idk man this is not my thing to put it lightly |
Snide
01.01.17 | Not a fan y'all?
Well shit, good news is it's just for this EP that I'm keeping this sound.
My third album's gonna be way diff. |
SteveOffProbation
01.01.17 | yea, just gonna stay with my old advice upon listening to it again. percussion more abrasive, spoken word needs to be lower, riff sounds like st. anger.
still excited to hear the full thing tho |
ScuroFantasma
01.02.17 | "Sandboxing the EPs with the site's community is actually an interesting concept he's stumbled upon."
Agreed, it's a weird thing when you consider it though, like when you think about influence it's usually a one way thing (so listening to Snide's stuff will make you ~feel~ something), but in this way his stuff is sometimes also influenced by the audience. It's like he's test screening a movie. |
Snide
01.02.17 | In all honesty, any EPs I release for Black Malachite are mostly just fun, trying out new sounds, trying out new styles, etc. I love them, and several of the songs on them (Dark Fade, Pitch Dark Neon, City of the Night, etc) are really special to me. But Sputnik does give me the best, most brutal feedback so it's a wonderful place to gauge music interest since everywhere else is way less harsh. |
50iL
01.02.17 | Decent track for what it is. A bit too short and cliche but the vox were pretty good. |
FullOfSounds
01.02.17 | Seems like a failed experiment Snide. Idk man I really can't say I like anything you did in this track. BandNewbac is right about the production |
Rolling Girl
01.02.17 | I actually kinda like what's going on here although the production can definitely be improved. My biggest complaint is the harsh vocals but those are always hit and miss with me, nice work snide. |
ZippaThaRippa
01.02.17 | So is Cherry Blossoms gone forever? |
ZippaThaRippa
01.02.17 | I hate your voice more than I expected I would,
genuinely surprised |
Trebor.
01.02.17 | Dark fade
as opposed to light fade |
Trebor.
01.02.17 | The guitar is so basic. If you're going to make metalcore it should least riff |
Deathconscious
01.02.17 | i cringed so hard. |
Snide
01.02.17 | @Zippa: Cherry Blossoms is on the forgotten EP which is a small 3 song EP that's got the remains of that four EP concept I originally was doing - http://www.sputnikmusic.com/soundoff.php?albumid=240281
@Trebor: You felt my riff composition was too basic?
@Dfevil, Full, and 50il: Thanks you guys for the honesty. |
Deathconscious
01.02.17 | the spoken word delivery was cringey, the lyrics are cringe, the riffs are some of the most uninteresting ive ever heard, and that album cover is lol. your growls are passable but your screams are lol as well. almost nothing good about this, tbh. |
Sevengill
01.02.17 | It was a little pitchy in the middle there. |
Deathconscious
01.02.17 | oh, and those synths just sound totally out of place, not to mention the melody used is forgettable. |
Snide
01.02.17 | @Seven: Pitchy?
@Adolf: Thanks for the honesty! I honestly have a weakness for "dark" sounding cheesy spoken word passages which is why I include them in songs like these. What about my screams sounded "lol" to you though? |
Deathconscious
01.02.17 | well it was more just the opening scream that was layered with the growl, it just sounded weak. the delivery/technique isnt very good. |
Sevengill

sempiturtle
01.02.17 | Honestly was indifferent to your other stuff -- it wasn't too bad -- but this has horrible vocal layering, horrible forced electronics, horrible cringy lyrics, horrible airy and weak screaming, and that horrible spoken word intro. Sorry but it's bad. |
onionbubs
01.02.17 | Snide
I love ya but
why? |
zaruyache
01.02.17 | for the glory of sa-- |
Deathconscious
01.02.17 | satan wouldnt want to be associated with this. |

01.02.17 | he was gonna say santa |
Deathconscious
01.03.17 | either way. |
