| It's Hot as Hell Outside
What better time to hit 666 ratings, huh? All I've wanted to do this weekend is chill outside but between the 90+ temps and 70%+ humidity, there's just no way. List is 3.0 or better 2016 stuff I've discovered since I made my 2016 halfway list back in June. Recs would be appreciated. Trying to get in as many more listens and downloads as I can before I head back to college at the end of the month; downloading there takes ages. | 15 | | Kayo Dot Plastic House on Base of Sky
Experimental - Gonna have to try this again, but on my first listen or two, it sounded like a re-tread of Coffins on Io, which I didn't care for all that much. It's okay stuff, but I didn't see anything worth writing home about. | 14 | | Chevelle The North Corridor
Alternative metal - This band can do so much more than they have here. I can appreciate making simpler or heavier music for the sake of simplicity or heaviness, but with a repertoire as stacked as Chevelle's, this just makes for a bundle of most of their weakest material. An unpopular opinion, it seems, but I just can't fathom why this got so much praise. | 13 | | Mitski Puberty 2
Indie - Not entirely sure if I dig this; I enjoyed some of the experimental vibes, but her voice just might not be for me :( | 12 | | A Dead Forest Index In All That Drifts From Summit Down
Gothic? - Slow, brooding, sparse stuff with dreamy, smooth vocals (think O'Brother). A great meditative listen, but admittedly there's not a lot to dissect. | 11 | | Departures Death Touches Us, From The Moment We Begin To Love
Post-hardcore - Gonna have to give this another go at some point; I enjoyed it while listening but it hasn't really stuck with me. If you liked this, do yourself a favor and check out 6. | 10 | | Souveneer Merit Badge Season
Indie folk - Calling all Tigers on Trains/The Republic of Wolves fans, Mason Maggio put out this solo EP and it's nice stuff. | 9 | | Frightened Rabbit Painting of a Panic Attack
Alternative rock - Some real gems on this thing's first half. Second half is kinda monotonous. | 8 | | The Pineapple Thief Your Wilderness
Prog rock - It's uh...very prog rock. Again, first few tracks are great, album admittedly gets a little uninteresting in the middle, but it's all quite pleasant. | 7 | | Periphery Periphery III: Select Difficulty
stop derpin' while I'm djentin' | 6 | | Stockades Open
Post-hardcore - Kinda La Dispute-y instrumentation, a few jazzy elements thrown in the mix. Very well-rounded, emotional stuff. | 5 | | Into It. Over It. Standards
Emo/indie rock - First time hearing this band and they've been a huge grower over the course of the last month or so. Excellent melodies and drum work especially. | 4 | | TTNG Disappointment Island
Math rock - My initial review of this was more critical of the band's sameyness, but it's grown on me massively. | 3 | | Racing Glaciers Caught in the Strange
Indie rock - Beautiful, atmospheric, some amazing songs and the rest is filled with growing potential | 2 | | Russian Circles Guidance
Post-rock/post-metal - No frills, all passion. Luscious production, easily one of the best post-rock records released this year. | 1 | | Thank You Scientist Stranger Heads Prevail
Prog rock - Really didn't expect to like this, but hey, here we are, and it's an AOTY contender. | |

08.14.16 | Yeah, it's so humid too | ashcrash9
08.14.16 | anyone else caught in the Northeast's ongoing Excessive Heat Warning? This weather sucks. Too summery for its own good.
anyway, see description, rec away | Drifter
08.14.16 | The North Corridor is easily their weakest album. Such a disappointment imo. Might even lower it to a 2.5 tbh. The bonus track is pretty good though | Flugmorph
08.14.16 | its dark outside | ArsMoriendi
08.14.16 | "anyone else caught in the Northeast's ongoing Excessive Heat Warning? This weather sucks. Too summery for its own good."
Yeah Long Island feels like a constant sauna. | DigitalSchism
08.14.16 | Agree completely with 14. Most of the songs were forgettable and it just felt like a complete regression. Hopefully it was just a one off and they won't stick with that style. | LotusFlower
08.14.16 | ever chevelle album seems to be a 2.5 in reality | Flugmorph
08.14.16 | 1 was pretty meh | Asdfp277
08.14.16 | it's the heat | Artuma
08.14.16 | 6 looks nice indeed | Spacesh1p
08.14.16 | Heat is killer | FullOfSounds
08.14.16 | Yeah I hate this heat. 2 rules and you reminded me to bump it up. | 50iL
08.14.16 | Went to a theme park outdoor thing with friends yesterday. Awful heat. Feeling sick today so I'll stay home.
1 is awesome but not AOTY contender in my books. | Danred97
08.14.16 | I live in Alabama, so I understand your pain.
New Departures is pretty damn good. Between that, Frameworks, and the new Touché Amore coming out, it looks like a good year for hardcore/emo. | MistaCrave
08.14.16 | Where do you live man? I'm up in New Hampshire and it's been similar for me. I'm on an XC team and I've been trying to get runs in here and there, but it's so painfully hot that I feel like absolute shit after running a couple of miles. | ashcrash9
08.15.16 | South Coast of MA here, man. Being right on the water has just been adding to the humidity. I can't even imagine trying to run in this heat - my 10 minute walk to work and back is bad enough right now. | MistaCrave
08.15.16 | Dude, I ran 9 miles on Tuesday at a really fast pace and felt like I had the flu that night. I also ran on Wednesday and looked like I just got out of the shower when I finished. It's not the heat that's the worst part, it's the humidity. It makes the heat 10x worse. I can't imagine how bad it is on the water. | RogueNine
08.15.16 | All about that dewpoint, man. | Snake.
08.15.16 | yeah when people say that it's not the heat it's the humidity they are not fucking kidding
evaporation of sweat is what keeps the body naturally cool and with high levels of moisture in the atmosphere, evaporation is at a much slower pace because the air is too wet, therefore the body continuously produces more and more perspiration and it makes evaporation even more difficult to happen which could lead to heat stroke | MistaCrave
08.15.16 | Snake droppin some sceicne | miketunneyiscool123
08.15.16 | youre the goddam devil u must like death metal and stuff | RogueNine
08.15.16 | Mets unite. m/ | AsleepInTheBack
08.15.16 | 6 sounds interesting. And 1 and 3 rule | DinosaurJones
08.15.16 | This heat is so shitty. It sucks when it rains and you're like "Oh, maybe that will help!" And then you go outside and it's EVEN WORSE. | Chortles
08.15.16 | it's hit over 100 degrees p much every day for the past few months here in Texas
summer is miserable here | ashcrash9
08.15.16 | I know that feel, Chortles. Lived in Fort Worth for 7 years, and this current northeast humidity wave is making it feel just as bad as an average Texan summer rn |
