02.19.16 | Any recs? This kind of specific thing is really hard to find. However, i'm not looking for acoustic music necessarily. Just non-metal music based around really fucked up themes and lyrics. I don't mean just a song either, i'm trying to find bands with consistent themes. |
Willie
02.19.16 | Cranes - Wings of Joy
Neurosis and Jarboe (This one is kind of metalish, but not really) |
Shemson
02.19.16 | I don't have a chance to check this particular artist right now but if you want pretty melodies with dark vibes Grouper is excellent. |
adr
02.19.16 | >metal
>disturbing |
Brabiz
02.19.16 | Nicole Dollanganger's new song "Have You Seen Me?" Is actually really metal-ish. Sounding a lot like something you'd find on Chelsea Wolfe's Abyss album. So i'm nlt entirely against large, evil sounding songs with distorted guitars. As long as it's not just straight up metal music |
Shemson
02.19.16 | Loved the last Chelsea Wolfe album, this artist is similar? |
Brabiz
02.19.16 | Only on the new track. She's definitely not similar haha. But "Have You Seen Me?" Is definitley worth a listen if you liked Abyss' heavier tracks |
Brabiz
02.19.16 | Angels of Porn also has a slight Chelsea Wolfe vibe |
LotusFlower
02.19.16 | Been a fan of this chick's work for a while. If you're looking for morbidness mixed with unsettling composition then go give The Paper Chase a spin. They're the indie rock soundtrack to the scariest horror movie of the year.
Jandek's Room for the House is just incredibly unsettling singer/songwriting music, also a good example for what you might be looking for.
Amigo the Devil takes a lot of inspiration from serial killers and mental insanity, but the sound is standard blues/folk. |

02.19.16 | current 93 - i have a special plan for this world |

02.19.16 | i get chills just typing the title lmao album fucks me up |
Brabiz
02.19.16 | I love The Paper Chase! |
Ashen
02.19.16 | Whitehouse - Mommy and Daddy
Couch Slut - My Life As a Woman |
Brabiz
02.19.16 | Whitehouse scares me but I don't find their music very enjoyable. I'm looking for more conventional music, but with dark undertones. Wings Of Joy by Crane is a good example^ |
LotusFlower
02.19.16 | Bones - USELESS |
LotusFlower
02.19.16 | Also sufjan Stevens song Arnika |
Brabiz
02.19.16 | I was thinking of Sufjan Steven's one song about John Wayne Gacy actually haha, that song gives me the willies |
LotusFlower
02.20.16 | Arnika is even more unsettling. Off tune guitar, eerie children vocals, and the constant sound of a swinging noose. Spooky x20 |
Supercoolguy64
02.20.16 | have you listened to any 90's era Swans?
if so, check out The Great Annihilator. It's not exactly "pretty" musically, it leans on Post-punk and Folk rock territories, but still |
ChoccyPhilly
02.20.16 | Do you even power electronics? |
ZippaThaRippa
02.20.16 | Definitely take Clover's word on Amigo the Devil. Listen to 'the Infamous Butcher.' |
Frippertronics
02.20.16 | xiu xiu |
ZippaThaRippa
02.20.16 | Oh also, listen to the song Scissor by Liars |
ZippaThaRippa
02.20.16 | Also, Murder by Death - Who Will Survive and What Will be Left of Them
|
Funeralopolis
02.20.16 | you need to listen to xiu xiu right now |
Deathconscious
02.20.16 | Never heard that artist but Kengo Iuchi makes really disturbing music. Also Lustmord. |
zaruyache
02.20.16 | Blood on the Dance Floor. The general rape-iness is unsettling. |
ZippaThaRippa
02.20.16 | What's disturbing about Xiu Xiu |
Brabiz
02.20.16 | I'm looking more for lyrical content. Arnika is rather spooky, but lyrically i don't find it that intimidating haha |
ZippaThaRippa
02.20.16 | I just listened to roughly half of Curdled Milk. That was pretty miserable. It made me miserable. What the fuck man |
torts
02.20.16 | you are just an everflowing stream of edge, aren't ya lmao -torts |
ZippaThaRippa
02.20.16 | Hey that's a good album |
furyroad97
02.20.16 | Swans have got some pretty bizarre stuff. Look up Children Of God, one of their earlier albums. Going more recent, their last two albums can get pretty weird too. |
cb123
02.20.16 | Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Murder Ballads |
ZippaThaRippa
02.20.16 | Mark Lannegan - When Your Number Isn't Up |
Brabiz
02.20.16 | I'm pretty familiar with Swans. Michael Gira's solo stuff really gets under my skin. |
Brabiz
02.20.16 | ZippaTheRippa, yeah Curdled Milk will do that to you haha |
NoStoryBook
03.05.16 | You should check out Marika Hackman, absolutely gorgeous voice and well-written, melancholy music. The lyrics aren't always blatantly about fucked up stuff, but they are definitely creepy/eerie and disturbing at times.
Delving into more pop/electronic and less lofi, you could check out Melanie Martinez too. Pretty creepy lyrics and the music has a bit of that deranged carnival vibe to it. Her voice is also very nice. |
NoStoryBook
03.05.16 | Also, the songs "Allison" and "Family Planning" by the band Pepper Rabbit are hella creepy. Good stuff. |
Brabiz
03.05.16 | Thank you! I'll check them out |

03.05.16 | Peter sotos |
