08.19.15 | if we're using post-rock really really loosely, then this also could be considered a pioneer in post rock:

altertide0
08.19.15 | don't bother with explosions, it's the most average, soulless post-rock band there is. and if you really have to only listen to their 2001 and 2007 albums.
In alphabetical order:
GY!BE - all LPs (4) from 1997-2012
Mogwai - Mogwai Young Team
Slint - Spiderland AND untitled EP from 1994
Stara Rzeka - Cień chmury nad ukrytym polem (a bit more experimental than your usual post-rock)
Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind (a lot of other genres too, but man, it's just superb so you have to try it anyway)
Talk Talk - The Spirit of Eden, Laughing Stock
Tortoise - all LPs (3) from 1994-1998 |
Cygnatti
08.19.15 | "Stara Rzeka - s/t"
:] |
altertide0
08.19.15 | Sorry, was thinking of something else. I know the record very well ;) Though they did release a s/t single in 2014, was quite good too. |
altertide0
08.19.15 | If that's too much and you only want to get to know all the different faces of the genre (not necessarily the best), listen to skinny fists, 1 talk talk, millions now living will never die and spiderland (i see you already know agaetis). |
theBoneyKing
08.19.15 | Thanks altertide0 (and everyone else, once again), that's a nice comprehensive list! I do want to get a mix of the different facets as well as the best. |
theBoneyKing
08.19.15 | And I'd been considering Sountracks for the Blind, but wasn't sure if it was "really" post-rock, because I know Swans are pretty diverse, but I will definitely check that one at some point.
I've been interested in checking post-rock because I get the sense that it's very good as background music. Not that I am saying background music is bad, or implying that post-rock is lesser because of I will likely use it as such; I also am sure I will enjoy it for close listening purposes as well. |

08.19.15 | mogwai don't have a self-titled dude |

08.19.15 | @YakNips I probably need more sleep :) thanks.
@theBoneyKing yeah, the truth is there's hardly any post-rock except for parts of the four longest tracks, but the whole things is so expansive and atmospheric it gets the tag anyway. |
PunchedPeach72
08.19.15 | Check out Kauan, they occasionally mix post-rock with some aspects of metal, folk, and ambient. I believe all their stuff is free on bandcamp |
PunchedPeach72

03.20.17 | The Evpatoria Report - Golveka. What I love about it is that it's basically space post-rock, the first two songs are incredible.
Yndi Halda - Enjoy Eternal Bliss. Essential essential essential.
Jakob - Solace. Darker, rocks harder and the final track is depressing as hell. |
Dewinged
03.20.17 | Red Sparowes - At the Soundless Dawn |
