| theBoneyKing's "To Review" List
Well, I am new to Sputnik as well as to reviewing. Finding both that my general taste in music, particularly my taste for Americana and obscure alt-country, is not exactly in line with the general taste here and that as a result, a lot of music I like and even absolutely love has no reviews, or even has no page here, I have decided to use these un-reviewed albums as a way to build my review writing chops. It's entirely possible that this will never come to fruition or that it make take years due to time constraints or lack of motivation, but for the time being, here is a list of some albums (in no particular order) that I would like to review. About half of these have come out in the last year or so, so I may start with those to try to bump some more current stuff. (Descriptions of some in case you're interested; most of these are good enough that I would recommend them.) | 1 | | Lucinda Williams Car Wheels On A Gravel Road
1998; A classic for me; I'm surprised no one's reviewed it before, and this needs to be fixed. | 2 | | Lucinda Williams Down Where the Spirit Meets the Bone
2014; More greatness from Lucinda | 3 | | Drive-by Truckers English Oceans
2014; DBTs are back on track | 4 | | Brandi Carlile Bear Creek
2012; A near-classic for me, so I need to get out a good review of it. | 5 | | Brandi Carlile The Firewatcher's Daughter
2015; Good heartfelt folk with a few rockers | 6 | | Delta Spirit Into the Wide
2014; Atmospheric Americana | 7 | | Deer Tick Negativity
2013; Dark-tinged Americana | 8 | | Deer Tick War Elephant
2007 debut from Deer Tick | 9 | | Deer Tick Divine Providence
2011; Drunken rock fun | 10 | | Lissie Catching a Tiger
2010; Folk-pop debut | 11 | | Lissie Back To Forever
2013; Popier but still better | 12 | | The Felice Brothers Favorite Waitress
2014; Unhinged, varied Americana | 13 | | Hiss Golden Messenger Haw
2013; Mixes a variety of folk/alt-country styles | 14 | | Hiss Golden Messenger Lateness of Dancers
2014; Still folky, but with a bit more South in it | 15 | | Ryan Adams Cold Roses
2005; How does this not have a review yet?? | 16 | | Scars on 45 Scars on 45
2012; I love this more than I should | 17 | | Wye Oak Shriek
2014; Shoegazey indie folk meets synths | 18 | | Hey Marseilles Lines We Trace
2013; Great chamber pop | 19 | | Diamond Rugs Cosmetics
2015; Great straight-up rock from Deer Tick et al. side project | 20 | | Field Report Marigolden
2014; Chill, emotive folk with subtle electronic touches here and there | 21 | | John Fullbright Songs
2014; Stripped-down Americana | 22 | | The Belle Brigade The Belle Brigade
2011; John Williams' grandkids make breezy indie country-folk | 23 | | Will Butler Policy
2015; Arcade Fire member gets boring | 24 | | Blake Mills Heigh Ho
2014; Obscure guitar virtuoso makes superb folky, subdued Americana | 25 | | Sleeper Agent About Last Night
2014; Rather cliched indie pop with a few great tracks | |

06.15.15 | Awesome man, I love alt-country/Americana, unfortunately it's not that popular on Sputnik. It'd be great if you could review some albums that need reviews from that type of music. | Calc
06.16.15 | if you're a good reviewer you'll make contrib easy if you do mainly americana stuff. on that note have you heard:
TOMO- Butterfly Dream and Other Guitar Works | Gameofmetal
06.16.15 | I always respect someone who goes out of their way to review unreviewed albums. I often don't bother reviewing something if it has a half decent review already myself | grannypantys
06.16.15 | what he said | theBoneyKing
06.16.15 | @Calc: Yeah, I wouldn't expect that anytime soon. I'm just starting reviewing so I'm not very good, and it'll take me quite a while just to do these if I ever get through them. And no I haven't heard that but I'll check it if I get a chance.
And yeah as I see it why pile reviews on stuff that already has them when so much I like doesn't have any yet. Hell I created the pages for 4 of these albums just so I could rate them. | theBoneyKing
10.16.16 | What a throwback this list is lol. Never got around to any of these, whoops. Maybe I'll have to try some of these one of these days. A lot of these albums I couldn't really be bothered to relisten to enough to be able to review them but 1, 2, 4, 13, 15, 17, and 24 still do really deserve reviews. | danielcardoso
10.16.16 | 5 is pretty nice iirc, wherever is your heart is really good. | zakalwe
10.16.16 | 25 looks like my first proper bird. Shudder. | Artuma
10.16.16 | possibly the softest list of all time | Lord(e)Po)))ts
10.16.16 | ^^^ | theBoneyKing
10.16.16 | Dan Wherever is Your Heart is probably a 5/5 song for me, it's a beaut. Rest of that album is solid too but doesn't quite hold up.
zak that album is pretty trash actually, I skimmed through it again recently on a whim and it held up much worse than I had remembered it. There's one decent tune and that's about it.
Art what else would you expect from me lol, I haven't changed much in 16 months. |
