| Dead in the 70's
This is a ranking of the Deads live and studio releases in the seventies. BTW I refer to the vinyl tracking numbers, as that is all I listen to | 11 | | The Grateful Dead History of the Grateful Dead 1 (Bear's Choice)
This Is the very first "Dead friend picking the music" live release. It is supposed to be a tribute to Pigpen who Passed right around the release date, So It does have a couple of decent Pigpen songs: Katie Mae and Smokestack Lightening, however in this modern era the Album is very short and you can find many better representations of the Dead and Pigpen | 10 | | The Grateful Dead Steal Your Face
The Grateful Dead admitted hated this release, many deadheads called this live release "Steel Your Money", you do not need to know more than that. | 9 | | The Grateful Dead Shakedown Street
Besides Shakedown Street and Fire on the Mountain, this studio release is pretty weak, I need a Miracle is ok, but the rest is hard to get through. | 8 | | The Grateful Dead From The Mars Hotel
Pretty decent studio release. Some highlights are Scarlet begonias, Ship of Fools, U.S. Blues, and Unbroken Chain | 7 | | The Grateful Dead Europe 72
This 6 side live set is unfortunately cherry picked from many different shows, thus "Europe" 72. The only sides that I feel are good are 1,3,4, the music is good but chopped up and I feel badly arranged. | 6 | | The Grateful Dead Blues for Allah
One of the more experimental releases in the Dead's cannon; and that says something. The album's twin opener Help On the Way into Franklin's Tower steal the show, but the rest of the album are interesting songs highlighted by The music never stops and Crazy Fingers. | 5 | | The Grateful Dead Terrapin Station
I think a very underrated album. Side one standouts include estimated Prophet and Samson and Delilah. All of side 2 is the Terrapin suite, which I think is one of the better later long compositions and a live standout. | 4 | | The Grateful Dead Grateful Dead
I think the best live dead of the seventies. A killer and different The Other One that takes all of side 2, also side 1 and 3 are cool shorter covers and original cowboy and train songs. Side 4 has a great Wharf Rat into Not Fade Away. | 3 | | The Grateful Dead Wake of the Flood
A return to a more traditional electric Dead sound, Do not let side one fool you, side 2 may be the best side of studio Dead ever made. Side 2 is :Here comes sunshine, Eyes of the World, Weather Report Suite. Also, check out Stella Blue on side 1. | 2 | | The Grateful Dead American Beauty
Workingman's companion, probably the best known Dead release. Highlights are Box of Rain, Friend of the Devil, Sugar Magnolia, Ripple, Brokedown Palace. | 1 | | The Grateful Dead Workingman's Dead
This in my opinion is the best GD release, fantastically crafted songs, simple down home folk rock fusion. Highlights include Uncle john's band, New Speedway Boogie, Cumberland blues, Easy Wind, Black Peter | |

06.03.15 | I was really hoping that this wasn't going to be a Grateful Dead list. I am sadly mistaken. | argonaut
06.03.15 | Nice list. I'd take 2 over 1, but can't go wrong with either. | 13km
06.13.15 | I'm one of those people who just can't do Terrapin, so I'd probably put that as the last, and I'd swap out Europe '72 with Wake of the Flood....As for 2 & 1, I love them both so much that asking me to pick one is like asking which child you love the most. Good list, bro!
