DoofusWainwright 05.23.15	If you weren't around in '91 you probably wouldn't understand how things were then. Bands could still take over the planet (like guns n roses, rem, U2, Metallica, etc). This doesn't happen anymore. AIC were small fry compared to Nirvana in terms of impact.

beefshoes 05.23.15	The fact that Nirvana is often grouped as one of the greatest bands of all time is beyond ridiculous. Their best album is a 2.5 at best, and every other notable band from the grunge scene at the time was better in almost every conceivable way.

You have no idea what you're talking about here. Their first album, Safe as Milk, (with almost the exact same lineup) made perfectly on beat music that showed off their talent in a traditional way. This album however was them experimenting and going offbeat and It's catchy in one of the sickening of ways, so it kind of rules. It's still structured and well played, but in a different way than we're used to, so it sounds off to those not used to it. I've heard it a couple of times and adjusted to it so it's not even off sounding to me anymore. Also, It had a gigantic influence on the punk, post-punk, alternative genres and is amazing for that alone. 1, 3, and 7 are a bit overrated, but I still like all 3 bands, especially Radiohead. Stadium Arcadium is a shit album though I like everything before it. 2, 4, 8, 9, and 10 I couldn't care less about. As for 5, I couldn't really offer an opinion since I only know 2 songs on it, but it's beloved by most and I think it's because not many albums of its time were like it.

Moreover I rated ICP albums from 1 to 4.5, something that nor a fan, neither a hater could do, so I think I am objective. Anyway who are you to tell what it's good and what it's not?! That is MY opinion, not yours, so I HAVE the authority like you and like everyone else: my opinion is as good as yours, because it is an opinion.

beefshoes 05.23.15	Yeah, 5 is awesome. I really enjoy 3's entire discography, but I agree with Ok Computer being incredibly overrated. It's listed as being the greatest album of all time on RYM's charts, which is absolutely insane.

To call a record of such overwhelming importance overrated, when it's #558 on RYM and it rarely appears on any lists of "best albums of all time", even on avant-garde sites, is just ignorance. It's just funny when you have good but nowhere near as visionary and forward-thinking records such as Dark Side of the Moon or White Album appear everywhere and have 5 to 10x the number of ratings of TMR, yet you say that TMR is the one which is overrated!

Neither influence nor innovation are directly related to quality, which of course is subjective and is usually the most common factor that is taken into consideration when people say whether or not they think something is overrated. Including Trout Mask Replica isn't ignorant. His description for it does show that he is somewhat ignorant towards the rest of Beefheart's material though.
