Q1 2015
The first three months are down and what a quarter. So many great albums came out in such a short amount of time. Compared to 2014's first quarter, I must say this by far surpasses it. |
| 1 | | Viet Cong Viet Cong
I've been listening to this for well over 3 months, since it leaked in November. Saw them live. Has not budged from my top spot. |
| 2 | | Sleater-Kinney No Cities to Love
Excellent return to form. |
| 3 | | Swervedriver I Wasn't Born to Lose You
Another great return. |
| 4 | | Courtney Barnett sometimes i sit and think, and sometimes i just sit
Better than the EPs, she's possess a knack for lyrical genius. |
| 5 | | The Soft Moon Deeper
I know a lot of people are liking this as much as his older material but I think it's pretty solid. Far is a great single as was Black. He continues to blur the lines of post-punk and goth rock to a great degree. |
| 6 | | Modest Mouse Strangers to Ourselves
A lot of hate for this since it came out, but I think any new MM music is a good thing, and while there are definitely some duds, there's some really great tracks like The Best Room. |
| 7 | | Spectres Dying
Wow. Did not see this one coming. Wonderfuly shoegazey and noisey. |
| 8 | | Screaming Females Rose Mountain
Not their best effort but has some great tracks on it that came off really well live. |
| 9 | | Lightning Bolt Fantasy Empire
Great to have these guys back, and Fantasy Empire is their best since Wonderful Rainbow |
| 10 | | Cloakroom Further Out
Another great shoegaze debut. tops Nothing's Guilty of Everything as the best shoegaze debut in the last few years. |
| 11 | | Panda Bear Panda Bear Meets the Grim Reaper
Another solid effort from Noah Lennox. |
| 12 | | A Place to Bury Strangers Transfixiation
More hate on this one I'm sure, but I like their accessible nature on this latest LP. It's not their best effort but its still fun. |
| 13 | | Father John Misty I Love You, Honeybear
Doesn't beat his debut, but there's a lot of great songwriting and emotional heft displayed here. |
| 14 | | Pile You're Better Than This
Great follow up to a great debut. |
| 15 | | Gateway Drugs Magick Spells
Saw these guys open for Swervedriver last month. Very dynamic album. |
| 16 | | Waxahatchee Ivy Tripp
Cerulean Salt was amazing, this isn't nearly as good as that record, but it's still very good. |
| 17 | | Sufjan Stevens Carrie and Lowell
Never been a big fan of Sufjan, but this is a pleasant album. |
| 18 | | Godspeed You! Black Emperor 'Asunder, Sweet and Other Distress'
I've never listened actively to this band before, but I quite enjoyed this album. |
| 19 | | Wand Golem
Great album from this psych rock band. |
| 20 | | Laura Marling Short Movie
Another solid effort from Ms. Marling. Title track is my favorite. |
