Driving Albums

The road is at the center of the American mythos, and hitting the tires rto the pavement is one of the best experiences out there. It's ingrained rin my consciousness. And of course there has to be music. These are rsome of my go-to driving albums. Only one album per artist, or this rwould end up being at least 75% Tom Waits.
1Tom Waits
Closing Time

This one's my go-to road trip record. Ol' 55 is pretty much the greatest driving
song ever.
Best driving song: Ol' 55
2Black Lab
Passion Leaves a Trace

Night driving. This Night really makes me feel the isolation of the streetlights.
Best driving song: This Night
3Dog Fashion Disco
Adultery

Shout out to the red light district. Another great night driving album, feels like I'm
in a noir film when I drive in the city.
Best driving song: Moonlight City Drive
4Protest the Hero
Kezia

Freeway. Sun's out. Windows are down. Kezia's on. I'm speeding like fuck.
Best driving song: Blindfolds Aside
5The White Buffalo
Once Upon a Time in the West

This is the desert road album. The sounds of a gritty gravel road, dust kicked up
by the tires.
Best driving song: The Pilot
6The Sword
Gods of the Earth

There's an awesome symbiosis between massive fucking riffs and the open road.
The Sword supplies the massive fucking riffs in spades.
Best driving song: To Take the Black
7Blackfield
Blackfield

This is the cool down from road rage album. It really makes me feel the
separation - so close to people, but so far away from them, in our own little
boxes. This is another lonely driving record.
Best driving song: Hello
8Dolorian
Voidwards

Not just because of that band name. Another perfect night driving album,
especially if you're driving through a forest. Makes me feel incredibly small and
insignificant, like I could take the car off the edge of the world.
Best driving song: The Flow of Seething Visions
9The Wonder Years
The Greatest Generation

Because sometimes you need massive vocal melodies to scream along to at the
top of your lungs while the wind's in your hair just to feel young.
Best driving song: Dismantling Summer
10Queens of the Stone Age
Songs for the Deaf

Even the tracks often open or close with the sounds of flipping through a radio
dial. The music videos frequently feature cars. QotSA just have that desert road
atmosphere down to a science. I can practically feel the bumps in a dirt road in a
car with busted shocks.
Best driving song: No One Knows
11OOMPH!
Des Wahnsinns Fette Beute

When a bunch of people are in the car, this is the fucking party album. Such Mich
Find Mich is the best sing-a-long for a language I don't speak, and with the bass
up, you can really feel the pulse on this thing.
Best driving song: Such Mich Find Mich
12Nick Drake
Pink Moon

A broken man and a guitar, another great one to feel like there's you and the
road, and no one else outside those four doors.
Best driving song: Road
