10.02.14 | It won't spread. Outbreaks like these don't happen like they do in movies. We know what this is and we know how to contain it. Unless a virus is completely airborne, there won't ever be anything like say: the bubonic plague again. |

10.02.14 | If Nigeria can contain it (which they did, only 20 cases and the original one was in a city of 21 million) then we probably won't even have another case. The only way it goes somewhere else is if it's flown in somewhere else. |
KrazyKris
10.02.14 | ~I'm just saying be careful~
Really no need to. Everyone possibly infected is closely monitored and in quarantine. They're idiots, but it's still the US.

10.02.14 | I caught an airborne virus I think once. It wrapped around my heart and started hurting it. I was inhhospital for 6 days |
KrazyKris
10.02.14 | @Storm Not really our call. Depends on how stable the virus is, how likely it is to mutate. I personally don't know, how dangerous Ebola is when it comes to that. Only thing I read from some virologist is that its structure and behaviour is quite similar to the influenza, so maybe it's not that unlikely. |
YoYoMancuso
10.02.14 | "How hard is it for a virus to get airborne though?"

KrazyKris
10.02.14 | @YoYo doesn't sound like very hard, only like very unlikely. So it's maybe like winning the lottery, but that has happened every now and then. And the more people get infected, the more likely it is for Ebola to produce exactly that kind of mutation. |
KrazyKris
10.02.14 | ~So my chances of survival are somewhat mixed considering my unfortunately close distance to the start of the outbreak~
Even if you get it, the experimental medicine seems to work quite well so far (not sure about that, but I think only one that got treated with it died). I'd guess it reduces the mortality rate from about two thirds to about 20-30%. Plus, you're young and have a healthy immune system.
So, no worries. Believe me, just try and get infected... |

pretty much the only reason why it was talked about in the U.S. news is bc there were U.S. citizens in Africa treating patients and in danger of being infected. especially after they did get infected, and were sent back to the U.S. to be treated. |

Yeah it was rough. I'd been to the hospital the night before but they kicked me out at 3am and I had to walk a mile home. Fortunately it was just a mile. 9am I woke up and I thought I was dying and ended up collapsed on my front lawn before my mom drove through. And then when I got to hospital I was told I was only having a panic attack and they were annoyed by me. They had me wait n the ER waiting room for four hours while I was just collapsed there unable to breathe and in the worst pain ever. I asked for help to go to the bathroom and the attendants through the window said I can do it myself. (I couldn't even move my upper body without feeling completely destroyed and dying in my chest. Then they did their tests and it came back that I was having a heart attack (I'm 24 years old). A few days later a hundred thousand drugs later and a million tests later they realized something had attached to my heart. |

10.03.14 | Honestly this country has more hypochondriacs than everywhere else in the world. From Avian Flu
to Mad Cow to H1N1 I've had to brush off neurotic sensationalists from trying to convince
everyone that THIS IS THE END without even calmly analyzing the full situation. The only
difference now is that the disease isn't airborne, but of course someone out there saw Outbreak
and is convince it's going to mutate at any second. We live in one of if not the most medically
advanced country in the world and we've survived multiple outbreaks, including ones from other
countries. Yes ebola is indeed transmitted through bodily fluids so it's clear you shouldn't be
handling dead bodies or swallowing fecal matter during this time (if you work the morgue,
sorry), the last thing people need to be doing is getting worked up over nothing and assuming
the worst. Remember, BAD NEWS SELLS so don't go freaking out over the news either. No reporter
seems to remember that we managed to fly two infected individuals from Africa to Georgia and
resolve their illness just in time for an interview. |
