I feel like I've been losing the angst which I'm sure has something to do with how I've been feeling emotions less and less. lots of things just seem in the middle for me, not too bright but not too dark either
I miss angst |

06.30.14 | Yes, you grow out of this angsty stuff. But don't worry, soon enough you'll find yourself liking old school emo which better fits your age. |

06.30.14 | As you grow older, you find out that some things ain't so bad as you once thought, mainly because you've been through a lot of shit and know that you're still around and ok. I've read someplace that Andy Warhol taught himself simply not to care about all these kind of things that get you down in life and say: so what? I guess it kinda became his mantra and I can absolutely see the point in that strategy. But then again, he was emotionally crippled and suffered from a severe infeority complex. Maybe you learn to cope better as you age, and find yourself a nice strategy that suits you perfect. ANYWAY, what you call an angsty album should be so much more than pure angst. If there was nothing but that particular feeling in a record I would probably get rid of it.. Or keep it as a reminder of what I used to be, I dunno. |
PorcelainRain
06.30.14 | There is a lot of stuff I loved that I just can't get into anymore. I didn't start out with angsty music I started out as a baby with Yes, Rush, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Black Sabbath, and the Monkees. Then around 13 or 14 years old I went on to modern rock and metal, then around 17 hip-hop and experimental. 18-23 I listened to absolutely everything except shoegaze (no joke but still, haha!). Now at 24 years old I am undecided about what I even like. I am more interested in good song-writing and vocal/instrumental delivery than types of music. I find myself less interested in metal and rap every week, but I don't really like soft shit or generic rock either. Hopesfall, CES CRU, and Anberlin are my three favorite artists at the moment though. |

07.01.14 | "bakker I have noticed myself liking Sunny Day Real Estate out of nowhere if that kind of the music
you are talking about.

Well, SDRE is definitely angst. But in a refined way. Mostly, when people talk about angsty music
it's stuff like Mice & Men (to my dismay). I am 25 years old and still listening to 'angsty' stuff,
just not the typical teenage angst. If we replace the word 'angst' with a more philosophical and
fitting term at this stage in a human's lifespan it can be traded in for 'existentialism'. A term
which indicates the search for meaning and the overcoming of human flaws ( not so far as to go to
transhumanism).
See how refined it suddenly sounds? What I'm traying to say I guess is the content of the music
doesn't make you immature, it's the nature that does.
I myself am listening to lots of modern classical and ambient lately, but only because there isn't
much to discover anymore in the emo, slowcore and other introspective music scenes. |
