06.17.14 | Great recs so far man...
Check out DJ Krush. 'Kakusei' is a good starting point.
And Ryuichi Sakamoto is somewhat of a legend. Have a listen. He's released a lot of music, and done a lot of collaborations. |

06.17.14 | Jam some Ruins bro, there is nothing more unique than mathy drum and bass with zuehl vocals. Pioneers in making that thick bass intensive sound of lightning bolt with spastic drums. Their material varies throughout their releases, their early sound is more symphonic, but if I were you, I'd check Mandala 2000, a compilation.
Also check their other band Koenjihyakkei. It's Zuehl once again but with a more prog rock feel to it. With female vocals.
Check Ling Tosite Sigure. Can't go wrong with that. They have a pretty unique way of doing things in a rock context. Great songwriting imo.
Check School Food Punishment when you're feeling like chilling out from the whack attack of Ruins.
Mass of The Fermenting Dregs
9mm Parabellum Bullet
I know they have been mentioned here, but seriously, listen to Midori, Goto Mariko has a special charm about her especially in Aratame Hajimemashite, she makes really melodious vocals, she screams like there's no tomorrow, she makes obaa-san impressions. Not to mention that punk/jazz blend. Delicious.
If you like vocaloid you might wanna check Jigokugata Ningen Doubutsuen, It's this concept album about all these girls that are going to hell, and each track offers insight to how one of them feels about it and their regrets about the things they have and haven't done. All tracks are done by independent producers of the vocaloid world and it has some of the best produced tracks I've ever seen.
Also check Yuru Fuwa Jukai Girl, another vocaloid record, don't remember the name of the producers but it's a great record, just a couple of bad tracks but mostly really good material
Note that I'm not even that into vocaloid but these records are the only ones that keep my attention. I'm really picky when it comes to the vocaloid scene, there is too much crap music. |
EasyModeDX
06.17.14 | Check Tokyo Active Neets, they make touhou instrumental jazz and they have CRAZY technique, they are masters at making instrumental jazz pieces with various influences from free jazz to bebop, a bit of reggae here and there... |
EasyModeDX
06.17.14 | Oh That's right, I almost forgot, check Sound Horizon, Symphonic rock/metal with huge sprawling concepts and mixing various genres... Also check polysics, for that HAPPY music, Mutyumu too, imagine Mono with screamo thrown in for good measure and operatic vocals |

07.11.14 | coaltar of the deepers had one cool shoegaze album in amongst a bunch of really dull ones, can't remember which one it was lol
tolerance "divin" from the 80s is like japanese IDM before any actual IDM artist had opened fasttracker
flower travellin' band "satori" is really good psyche rock. shingetsu self-titled was a decent neo-prog affair
jun togawa has billions of excellent projects... guernica is deliberate 40s, 50s kitsch, yapoos were poppy electronic punk stuff, her albums under her own name are some bizarre failed idol pop and so forth |
