11.30.13 | Firefly was great.
Battlefield Earth was mediocre as a novel and shit as a movie.
Metropolis is great if you are of a mind, since it's a silent film.
Alphaville-French noir/scifi film
Akira- I don't think I need to say anything about this
Fantastic Planet- French animation that is mind blowing, although it may feel stilted due to the animation technology of the time.
Stalker and Solaris- Both movies by Tarkovsky, slow burners but worth the time spent. Remake Solaris isn't as good as the original.
Dark City- Noir/sci-fi has the feel of blade runner and the maltese falcon with the psychic histrionics of Akira. Fun film |

11.30.13 | the animation on Fantastic Planet is mad atmospheric |

11.30.13 | ALmost forgot my favorite sf Brazil.
Although it's not hard sf. It's fucking awesome. |
Jruined
11.30.13 | Yeah YoYo, I love it. It gets stilted at times, but the art direction is so out in left field it's worth it.
Oh shit, I almost forgot Time Masters too for animation. Jean Girard (Moebius) worked on that and it is a nice little trip of a movie. |

11.30.13 | If you want books I have a shit ton of recs.
Some other movies that just crossed my mind are:
Tetsuo: Iron Man
Eraserhead (kind of getting out there but has sf elements)
Krull (cheezy sf/fantasy)
2001
Logan's Run: Corny at times but the ideas are awesome
The Thing(Carpenter): The story Who Goes There that it is based on rules as well.
Wall-E: Sounds funny, but it's a great little piece of sf. |
