03.06.08 | Maybe check out some Pain of Salvation for your prog kick. The Perfect Element Pt. I is a good starting place.
Tomahawk is a Patton side project, also Fantomas. | Tyler
03.06.08 | Tomahawk isn't really a Patton project, nor are they good or what he seems to be looking for.
You might like Biomechanical's - The Empires Of The Worlds, just do not get anything else by them. Into Eternity's Scattering of Ashes is another, and Persefone is worth looking into as well. | Jim
03.06.08 | yeah dream theater and symphony x are obvious ones i suppose. check out the prog metal band eyefear - the vocalist is fucking amazing. such a range.
some great albums here too. particularly 2, 5 and 8 | Jim
03.06.08 | actually, after reviewing your ratings, i must urge you to listen to early dream theater. their last two albums are just mediocre. | brandtweathers
03.06.08 | I actually suggest you listen to 'deloused in the comatorium' before you jump into frances the mute by mars volta.
the reason i say this is because the transition made in the album i suggested is unreal in the scope of what was achieved by their genre up to that point.
deloused is an incredible listen with deep uncurrents (research it... very impactful) | Altmer
03.06.08 | Listen to Porcupine Tree, Pain of Salvation, Ayreon, Opeth, Faith No More, Mostly Autumn, Radiohead, Kamelot, Anathema, A Perfect Circle, Tool, etc. | TheGreatD17
03.06.08 | Fair to Midland, and most of what Altmer said | jrowa001
03.06.08 | Riverside
Devin Townsend
Newbreed
Joey Eppard
Opeth
Spheric Universe Experience
...and what everybody else has mentioned | Mendigo
03.06.08 | man, the progressive area were the 70's.
really, even if you don't like crimson (which I can't believe), try something by Yes ("Relayer" maybe, it's their heaviest), Pink Floyd ("Animals", or "Wish You Were Here") and The Mahavishnu Orchestra ("Birds of Fire" or "The Inner Mounting Flame").
Porcupine Tree, Tool, Oceansize and Opeth are "newer" recommendations I can give you. | Mendigo
03.06.08 | I've just seen you already have Tool, and rated them rightly ;)
still you haven't rated Led Zep's Physical Graffiti...
and I don't know what you've heard from King Crimson, but if you don't have it try "Red", one of the best progressive albums ever (and completely different from for example, In the court of the crimson king)
Jimi Hendrix - Electric Ladyland would be another 60's recommendation, but if you don't like Led Zep it might not be yours. |
