King Crimson Ranked

A remake of my old KC discog ranking...
13King Crimson
Beat

Was it a good idea to make this? Really. Everything about it seems so wrong, it doesn't even feel like I'm listening to King
Crimson. The Frippertronics are nice, but everything else is just so dated. "Neal and Jack and Me", "Heartbeat", and "Neurotica"
are good, but everything is just utter tripe.
2.7/5
12King Crimson
The ConstruKction of Light

Is the most bland KC album? Yes. Is it the least interesting album? Sure. But is it pretty ambitious? Absolutely. Some may not
like it, but this album is alright. But very weak for KC standards.
3.4/5
11King Crimson
Three of a Perfect Pair

The final album of the 80's incarnation, this was a mixture of the experimental "Discipline" and the radio-friendly "Beat". It has
some nice tunes, including the title track, "Sleepless", and "Larks' Tongues in Aspic (Part III)". The downside? It's incredibly
boring. At least "Islands" kept me awake the first time I checked it out.
3.8/5
10King Crimson
Islands

This line-up, featuring Boz Burrell (to be of Bad Company), is definitely the most underrated incarnation of KC, but for good
reasons. This was their only studio album, and until the late-90s, Earthbound was the only available live album, unless you had
access to bootlegs. It's a decent album, the only downside was the horrid production.
3.7/5
9King Crimson
THRAK

An alright effort. It's not one of my favorites, but when I do listen to it, it's pretty good. Notable for being the final album (and
the first since "Red") to feature the Mellotron, it proves these prog dinosaurs aren't extinct just yet.
4.1/5
8King Crimson
Starless and Bible Black

An interesting album to say the least, but gets to be boring. The music is great, showcasing the group's improv skills. "Fracture"
is perfect to say the least.
4.2/5
7King Crimson
The Power to Believe

This was really surprising to hear. After "The ConstruKction of Light", it's amazing how the group was able to bounce back and
make one last album of astonishing quality.
4.3/5
6King Crimson
In The Wake of Poseidon

People complain it's a carbon copy of the debut. That's somewhat true. But that doesn't drag down the quality of the album for
me. The title track has to be one of the group's best, and Cat Food isn't too bad either.
4.4/5
5King Crimson
Lizard

For all the crap it's given, "Lizard" isn't too bad. Yeah, it takes a while to get used to, but the effort given by Gordon Haskell has
to be respectable. The only weak point had to be there was little guitar on the title track.
4.5/5
4 King Crimson
Larks' Tongues in Aspic

The same fact can be attributed to this as it was to Discipline, in which unlike with the latter, this album came after the
underwhelming "Islands", leaving a lot to be expected. The short-lived quintet managed to deliver.
4.7/5
3King Crimson
Discipline

For the first Crimso album in seven years, the fact that Fripp managed to gather up one of the greatest lineups in the group's
history, it's amazing how consistent the album manages to be. Considering it came after "Red", it's just as great.
4.7/5
2King Crimson
In The Court of the Crimson King

For a debut, this was absolutely astonishing and groundbreaking. Its influence is felt nearly fifty years later.
4.8/5
1King Crimson
Red

Everything on this album is perfect. From the track listing, to the tiny little details on the title track, it's King Crimson at its
finest.
