10.11.12 | this is such an interesting question to ask on sputnik. I think i could narrow it down to 2 or 3.. a lot like birds, protest the hero and fuck me on the third, but, that's like right NOW. 6 months ago HORSE would have been number 1 but if you listen to, or watch or eat or fuck anything for too long it starts to lose it's freshness. |

10.11.12 | I don't see how you can have Meshuggah as your fave band, given their limited variety, when your runners-up list looks like that, but whatever, that's just imo (I don't hate Meshuggah ftr)
I heard a lot of crazy stuff that will probably make the list recently, but I can't look at it objectively enough to add yet
1. Thrice/Anathema
3. Coheed/Opeth
5. Rush/Children of Bodom
7. Dire Straits/Bjork |
DarkSideOfLucca
10.11.12 | @johnny, it was tough because I love all of the bands in my description almost equally but the reasons I picked Meshuggah were many and it would take me a while to explain but I'll try and be brief. Their lyrics are so thought provoking they changed me as a writer and to an extent the way I think. I can listen to them no matter what mood I'm in as strange as that may sound, every member is stellar and their discography is so consistently amazing. Their atmosphere they create is often more horrifying than most horror movies I've seen, their sound is so unique (well a lot of bands rip them off now so it's hard to tell but look back in the 90s) they continue to push themselves, I dunno I'm ranting now lol but basically everything I love about music is in meshuggah |
JohnnyoftheWell
10.11.12 | Alright, fair enough lol |

Love, hate, compassion, despair, glee, pain,
Beauty as charming as her name
Like the pitter patter of rain
The sun rises and such begins a new day
Of me and Kate.
Whether it be ‘Running Up That Hill’ or ‘Hounds of Love,’ the essence of pop is strong
One exemplified, altered and twisted by Kate’s singing doing no wrong
The comparison we commonly see, refers her to having stolen from
The lips of a beautiful angel.
Often quoted to have also gifted Adele
It is easy for one to tell
Kate is the true winner.
The second half of the record maintains its pop essence
While adding an upbeat variance
Her melancholy songs make you feel delirious
The others providing you with a just as good experience
Hounds of Love makes you want to wait
And let Kate
Sit on your face
And masturbate
To show how much you dedicate
And how badly you want to relate
Jokes aside this album is perfect
The chance of much better than this has been necked
For those that don’t believe will have to realize and accept
Because this album cannot go unchecked.
“Do you want to know that it doesn’t hurt me?”
“Running in the night, afraid of what might be!”
The lyrics rise above and beyond all
Making all other lyricists topple and fall
Yet perhaps the most amazing thing
Besides of course the way Kate sings
She adds that extra zing
By writing this whole damn thing.
Limitless, talented, musically inclined, Kate has it all
Combining it together to finally enthral
And make Hounds of Love stand tall
Against the best albums of them all
The piano that frequently appears is strikingly calming
With string sections that are so good it’s alarming
Why does this slay so hard? We may never know
Kate can sing brilliantly, whether it be about sun or snow
So this album better become one of yours
Or the world shall slap your willy with an unfathomable force

10.11.12 | can't say I could argue at all with choosing Meshuggah. easily in my top 5 all time. discog is as consistent as anyone will you ever find. awesome band.
at the end of the day, I would have to go with Neurosis. their music imo on the whole is groundbreaking and more thought-provoking to me than anyone except maybe Pink Floyd. and on that note, I will say that Pink Floyd is tied; I would be doing my entire life of musical enjoyment an injustice without having them at the top. |
evilford
10.11.12 | Pestiferous, I would say, if you want to get into their discog (which I highly recommend), start at Souls at Zero and go chronologically from there. Don't think you would be disappointed.
If you're only wanting one album for now, the obvious rec around here would be the The Eye of Every Storm. |

But watch their live videos on youtube from 2000-2003. so badass, they always know how to pull it off live and do awesome improvisational jams and Songs for the Deaf is one of the greatest rock albums of the 00s. FromDaHood
02.13.13 | Considering country, rap and EDM are all acquired tastes, I don't hold it against a person at all if they say they don't like any of those genres. I still don't like (real) country or EDM and I've been "elite" for almost three years now. Don't knock a person just because they don't absorb themselves in music the same way people on this site do. |
FromDaHood
02.13.13 | And my favorite band is Jack's Mannequin, I lied earlier. |
omnipanzer

FromDaHood
02.13.13 | Hood niggas have feelings too |
Emyay
02.13.13 | FromDaHood, i totally agree man. I'm only ripping on people that say they like "everything" but then you find out that their taste isn't actually all that diverse. I could care less what people like and don't like. It's just that when your taste ranges from post rock to metal, you just don't have THAT diverse of taste. I don't consider myself to have the most diverse taste either, but the difference is that I don't go around saying I do. |
YankeeDudel
02.13.13 | "and I've been "elite" for almost three years now."

02.18.13 | Deftones has taken the throne from Tool for my all-time favorite, they're just way more consistent, and (imo) have evolved more. Tool is still up there though, and my others would be Meshuggah and Chevelle |
jmnewcomer18
02.20.13 | Deftones is yet to release anything relatively bad, with maybe the exeption of their self titled . Chevelle is good too but i havent heard enough of their music to go off of :/ Although Wonder What's Next is one of my favorite rock albums. |
