10.02.12 | @Ford tbh I don't know enough from the 80s to make an overall statement, but atm I would rank
1. Dire Straits
2. Rush (coz Permanents, Moving Pictures, Grace Under Pressure)
3. Metallica |
ViralOblivion
10.02.12 | haha ford we had a few similar ones |
omnipanzer
10.02.12 | Like my choices or not all of them had a direct affect on what was current and influenced what came after.
In other words they were all directly at fault for the shit versions of themselves that were signed because of their success. ;^) |

10.02.12 | Couldn't think of anyone else who was from the 2000's whom I listened to consistently throughout the 2000's. Linkin Park maybe? I'm definitely more of a retro rocker.
If we could have two picks per decade, my runners up would be:
50s - Chuck Berry
60s - Still the Beach Boys
70s - Ramones or Black Sabbath
80s - Iron Maiden
90s - Green Day
00s - No idea...Linkin Park maybe? |
ChuckyTruant
10.02.12 | LP and Slipknot are both suckish sorry |
ReturnToRock
10.02.12 | Maybe so, but like I said, I don't really listen to too many modern artists, and those two influenced my late teens heavily. |
evilford
10.02.12 | I liked them in my early teens too, looking back....ugh
there's still some good music around. just more garbage to sift through these days imo than in the '60s and '70s |
ViralOblivion
10.02.12 | well you dont have to listen to your teen jams haha looking for new music or genres is something i think everyone has to try its one of the points of this website for me at least to expand what i listen to |

10.02.12 | "there's still some good music around. just more garbage to sift through these days imo than in the '60s and '70s"
You'd be surprised how much music there is from the 60's and 70's that you've never heard of. If your willing to put in the effort you could spend the next few years not listening to a single new album. |
ViralOblivion
10.02.12 | i dont think i know much from the 60s i might but cant think of any |
evilford
10.02.12 | I agree omni, I discover more and more music from the past that I've never heard of. honestly, I would say that probably 97% of what I seek out at this point is more than 10-15 years old. mainly death metal, thrash, and trying to find the good places to start for prog rock and metal.
just seems like these days the radio/MTV/commercialism in general etc has turned music in general to garbage, save a few corners of music |
ReturnToRock
10.02.12 | I agree with Omni. And Ford/Viral, I listen to plenty of modern stuff but enjoy very little of it. I seriously couldn't tell you more than like a handful of artists currently on my list of tastes that came around in the last ten years. Billy Talent, MCR and Silverstein come to mind, but very little else. |
ReturnToRock
10.02.12 | And BT are technically from the 1990s. |
