auberginedreams 05.11.12	i think you misunderstand what i'm trying to say. i understand what it is obviously, i just feel like it's difficult to mix pop and punk effectively without leaning too far to one side. there's the andcas style stuff that's way too poppy, and then there's the punkier stuff that's not aggressive enough to be good punk, but not catchy enough to be good pop.

For instance Green Day, Offspring, Rancid, Bad Religion, Ramones and the likes were considered Pop Punk at one point but they are much less poppy than alot of pop punk I hear now. Theres a clear difference as those bands were basically just punk with good pop hooks, which is cool.

LifeAsAChipmunk 05.11.12	Punk is cool but metal takes much more talent and there is alot more diversity. Punk will always be punk and it hasnt changed much since the 70s. Power chords, 2-3 minute songs, same ol same ol. Not on par with metal in all its glory. Didnt one of the guys from Iron Maiden say punk is mainly just metal played badly lol. Metal has been combined with practically every form of music. Its the heaviest, fastest, and most adrenaline educing genre of music there is. There really is nothing else like it. I listen to alot of different shit but metal is still my baby.

Im talking about the really poppy punk stuff that started in the late 90s. Bad Religion was pretty poppy in the 90s Treboris but they werent gay like alot of pop punk bands now.

All are classified as Pop Punk but the latter duo is more poppy in its vocals, lyrical themes, and all that. Just being punk with hooks isnt the same as flat out pop punk.
