Masochist 05.04.12	It was excellent. The big climactic action scene, as long as it was, didn't drag like the one in Transformers, which I was waiting for. Mark Ruffalo and Robert Downey had immense chemistry out of costume (actually, all the interactions between characters were excellent), and I was really happy that everyone had their moment in the sun. Hulk definitely had the best scenes, though, and that was probably the most surprising (and rewarding) aspect of all. Perfectly executed, really damn funny, and greatly entertaining...I'll go so far as to say that it's the best comic book movie since Spiderman 2 (with the obvious exception of The Dark Knight). Also...Shawarma.

The Mandarin will be played by Ben Kingsley, so that sounds awesome. Although these things have a way of changing abruptly, remember the early reports that Spider-man 4 was going to feature The Vulture as played by John Malkovich as the main villain.
wabbit 05.05.12	Batman is a shitty character cause his motivation is fucking retarded and he just comes across as a crazy rich dude who has a fetish for beating people up. I mean sometimes they make his parents die and for some reason that is supposed to translate into him dressing up in a bat costume and solving mysteries. But if you argue that that is 1/100th as cool or well thought out as uncle Ben then you need to get your fucking head checked. The reason only Iron Man works is because the "man and the suit" and "the man" are mixed so doing heroic things feeds the billionaire's ego. Batman goes to great length to make sure no one knows who he is. So if you think Batman is as interesting as Iron Man you need to get your fucking head checked. So this means that Batman is just a richer less interesting version of Rorschach. Now Rorschach is an acceptable character because he has a clear motivation, he's a fucking crazy person. But he is also desperately seeking/ creating purpose in a world with no purpose which is really a basic human desire that we all have. Batman is shown to be sane and it's never really stated that he wants to find a purpose (well he kinda does in the last movie but that's only because the joker is interesting it has nothing to do with Batman's character. If anything it just makes Batman seem more flat and boring). If you go under the assumption that batman is a sane human being then the only way to describe why he does the things he does is because he is truly infallible and only wants to make the world a better place. Now the entire superhero genre is based around relating/ wanting to be the superhero and people aren't infallible, having a hero that is is just really boring as you are never really able to relate to him. This is why batman needs Alfred/ gordon so much because without them batman just becomes some impossibly rich, smart, strong and perfect person and completely goes against everything that makes superheroes cool. Even if you look at the new batman movies, which are fantastic, all the really good speeches are done by people who aren't batman because batman never experiences conflict to his basic goals. tl:dr fuck DC

theacademy 05.08.12	no offense to like, dumb people, but its way harder to make a great blockbuster than a great arthouse fapfest. like it seems counter-intuitive to cinema as an art form, but based on how our society works, if avengers' 2nd weekend domestic drop is less than 45%, it's arguably a greater achievement than the last 3 best picture winners combined.
