The Decemberists

The Decemberists are arguably one of the most eccentric bands among contemporary indie acts, with their approach to songwriting owing more to storytelling and the tradition of naval seashantys than introspective exploration of moods. The band started out as an indie folk-rock formation, releasing releasing three albums before signing to their first major label, Capitol Records, in late 2005. Their next two albums, "The Crane Wife" and "The Hazards of Love" saw them expanding and developping the more progressive- influenced sound they had hinted at with their 2004 EP "The Tain", still staying within the realm of indie folk. In 2011, after having toured extensively for some years, The Decemberists went back to a more stripped-down formula with the americana-tinted The King is Dead. Their seventh studio album, "What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World", is scheduled for release in early 2015. The band has gained a considerable popularity over the years, and have been considered a major act of the indie-folk scene by many. « hide
