Each Phish concert was original in terms of the songs included, the order in which they appeared, and the way in which they were performed: most of their songs were never played the same way twice. Although the group received little radio play or pop exposure, Phish developed a large following by word of mouth, similar to the Grateful Dead (which most phans cringe to read or hear). Phish are known for their cult-like fanbase with obsessive cd collections. Most live concerts are heard to find recordings from, but fans will bring boom-microphones and record the concert and trade them online.
