In 1996, Outkast released ATLiens, which was a gigantic departure from their style on Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik , it was
much moreElectronic and Afrocentric, and really showed a quick maturing in Outkast's career. "Elevators" reached the top 20
(The first Outkast song thatgot such notoriety) and ATLiens peaked at #2 on the US Album charts, And has gone double
platinum.
In 1998, Outkast released what Is widely regarded as their best effort: "Aquemini" (The title comes from the two member's
ZodiacSigns).Aquemini had Rock, Blues, and Jazz influences which helped reached a very wide audience and would help the
album go double platinum.Originally also planned out to be accompanied by a movie, which would not materialize until much
later on.
Though Outkast were adored by rap fans and casual listeners alike, their big break would come in 2000, with the release of
"Stankonia",which contained smash hits like "B.O.B. (Bombs Over Baghdad)", "Ms. Jackson",and "So Fresh, So Clean".The album
won two Grammys andwent 4X Platinum, and was on Top 10 of 2000 Lists everywhere.
Just when Outkast thought they had reached their Zenith, they released the long anticipated and long delayed double solo
albumSpeakerboxx(Big Boi)/ The Love Below (Andre 3000) which was matched by few albums in popularity, selling five million
copies.
Outkast have once again made people anticipate their new (and once again, often pushed back) Idlewild, which was released in
2006 withtheir long-dreamed feature film of the same name. Unfortunately, both the film and the album received lukewarm
responses from critics andfans, and, although it's unknown what implication this would have, OutKast would later go on on hiatus
in 2007 to focus on their solo careers, with Big Boi being thus far the only one who has managed to release a proper full length
album, despite Three Stacks several guestappearances since.
in 2013, it was confirmed that OutKast would once again reunite to perform at Coachella and to tour, although there has thus far
been no talkabout new material. « hide |
