Mudvayne formed in 1996 in Peoria, Illinois, initially incorporating complex time structures and bleak lyricism into their sound. During the early part of their career, they utilized uniforms and face paint into their live shows. Their later albums featured a stripped down and accessible sound, and the group would eventually go on an indefinite hiatus in 2010. They have since reunited for several future live performances in 2021.
