L'arc-en-Ciel

L'Arc-en-Ciel is a Japanese rock band, arguably the most popular band to emerge from there since X Japan. Originally a visual kei-inspired band, the group detached themselves from the tag in 1994, despite maintaining a rather flamboyant image. Originally a visual kei-inspired band, the group detached themselves from the tag in 1994, despite maintaining a rather flamboyant image. However, by 1997, as the group became increasingly more successful, their visual image evaporated as well. In 2001, after selling millions of albums and singles, L'arc took time off to concentrate on side projects, but returned in 2004 to humongous fanfare. The band toured around the world, most notably being the first Asian band to play at the Madison Square Garden, which, to top it off, soon sold out. They're also known for their anime connection, with the popular "Ready Steady Go" being used as an opening for Fullmetal Alchemist, "Spirit Dreams Inside" was used as the theme for the movie "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within", and the controversial single, "The Fourth Avenue Cafe", which, for a period, was an ending theme to the legendary anime series, Rurouni Kenshin. To date, the band has sold an impressive amount of over 30 million copies, making them one of the best selling Japanese artists of all time. « hide
