Klymaxx

Klymaxx is an all-female pop band that first formed in 1979. Although active for years as a funk/R&B band, the group didn’t enjoy mainstream success until the sudden explosion in freestyle pop in the mid 1980s, which they changed their style to. Klymaxx is an all-female pop band that first formed in 1979. Although active for years as a funk/R&B band, the group didn’t enjoy mainstream success until the sudden explosion in freestyle pop in the mid 1980s, which they changed their style to. Klymaxx became closely associated with the subgenre, and later scored their first hit in 1984, “The Men All Stare”, which, along with three other singles, helped propel their 1985 album, “Meeting in the Ladies Room”, to be a smash hit and it was later certified platinum. When freestyle pop had a sudden decrease in popularity by the end of the 1980s, Klymaxx’s commercial run seemed to end, and Klymaxx released three more albums before disbanding in 1995.In 2003, after nearly a decade apart, Klymaxx reunited, which was documented on a controversial episode of VH1’s Bands Reunited. In 2009, the members of Klymaxx interestingly split up into three different entities, with each one being fronted by another member and each entity being called Klymaxx. The new format didn’t go over well among their fanbase, and the group ended up disintegrating a second time in 2010. Beginning in the summer of 2012, the members of Klymaxx all regrouped and toured on-and-off again for the next few years. In late 2015, for the first time since 2003, the members of Klymaxx announced their official reunion, and the group toured throughout 2016 extensively, which was their first lengthy tour in a decade. Klymaxx remain active today, and some members of the group are reported to be in the works of their own memoirs. « hide
