Alaskan singer-songwriter who gained fame in the 'angry female' rush of the mid-90s. Her debut album, 1995's Pieces of You, featured the blockbuster hits 'Who Will Save Your Soul?', 'Foolish Games' and 'You Were Meant For Me'. She had a very unsophisticated lyrical style that made her both relatable and endearing. But despite this massive album, she spent the rest of the 90s roving through off-beat poetry readings and embarrasing musical missteps. She rebounded in 2003 with the shockingly adept dance-pop record 0304. and 2006's Goodbye Alice in Wonderland, a return to folk-pop form.
